Allrighty. I did my first southern triathlon this past weekend and was surprised to see the difference of technique - not to mention it has been 11 years since I last did a tri. Anyway, I have always left T1 with my shoes attached to my bike. What is the preference these days?

Also 11 years ago no one had disc wheels or wet suits (and all the races were up hill and in the snow) - I was surprised to see almost everyone in wetsuits and with crazy bikes.

I still think that shoes attched is  the fastest!  Well teh pros do it!  Disc wheels and wetsuits, everyone is looking for a silver bullet!  Glad to see you are back into Tri'S!

I think it's just what your comfortable with, and more importantly, what you've practiced. For me, Exiting T1 with my shoes in the pedals is slower. I t just takes me a second (maybe 5) to slip my shoes on, and I can run plenty fast with them on. I always fumble trying to get my feet in my shoes when they're on my bike. But that's just me.

The shoes on the pedals are preferred by pros because a one second delay could cause them to lose a race.  I am not a pro, so one second more or less will not make a big difference. I don my shoes and walk to the bike start line, clip in and ride off!  Participants are not allowed to run in the transition area in any of the triathlons I have been to so it does not matter.  Also, I have Shimano sport shoes that I can comfortably walk in and even run in if I have to.

Wow, TriBC has no such rules. That is definitely a good rule for those of us who don't leave our shoes clipped to our pedals.
