Age Group Rank = 16/34
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4, spent an hour plus on the road driving to Birmingham. Took my time setting up.
Event warmup:

Hopped in the water 30 minutes prior to start. Easy 5-minute warmup.
Swim
  • 09m 52s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Transition 1
  • 01m 20s
Bike
  • 50m 27s
  • 15 miles
  • 17.84 mile/hr
Comments:

Tropical Storm Arlene was a pain. I rode much more conservatively than I needed to, and people passed me who shouldn't have. I didn't want to risk the crash.
Transition 2
  • 00m 30s
Comments:

Had to swap out socks they were so soaked.
Run
  • 22m 4s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 22s  min/mile
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, put up the bike, changed, and watched the rest of the people come in. Of course it stopped raining and the sun came out when I was done.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weather, poor pre-race nutrition (night before), lack of rest, improper tapering.

Event comments:

I'm going back to Oak Mountain State Park just to go hang out on the beach, go hiking and bike. The location is awesome! Food was a little subpar, especially after the awesome job the organizer did at the Tri-It-On tri a couple weeks earlier.
