Subject: Wetsuit dilemma

I have my first wetsuit coming this week and I have 30 days to make sure it fits which is all good.  The problem is with this crazy weather here in Fort Worth where do I take it for a test swim.  I don’t want to swim in a pool due to the chlorine.  Area lakes have a water temperature in the high 40’s to low 50’s and I am not sure I could handle or survive swimming in that.  Any suggestions on what to do would be appreciated.

It wouldn't be fun, but you can absolutely swim in 40 degree water with your wetsuit.  I've done one race with water temperature in the 40's, and there were many people doing it without wetsuits.

However, you wouldn't see me training in that water!  Give it a quick test in the pool and rinse it off well afterwards.

One more tidbit of information that I failed to mention is that it is a sleeveless wetsuit.  That makes the water tempertaure even more a factor.  I guess could always just tuff it out for a trial run in an area lake.  Anyone know of a non chlorniated pool in the DFW area?

I have used my wetsuit in the LTF pool many times. I just rinse it off afterwards and have never had a problem.

I have the same problem, my new wetsuit (Xterra sleeveless) arrived yesterday and I want to try it out but not sure where to go. If it keeps raining I may just go out in the street and and ride the run off thought. I was thinking about trying it out in the pool but I don't want to affect the return policy by doing that.

Test it out in the pool.  The chlorine is not going to damage it.  Rinse it out after and it will be fine.  I have swam in 58º water and it will take your breath away.  I took an hour to regain body warmth after that swim.

Thanks everyone for the info and help.  I think I am going to go take a test swim at my local gym's pool.  Especially now that we have 9 plus inches of snow on the ground.  I will just wash it off real good afterwords.
