Just wondering if anyone has ever purchased the lottery ticket and gotten selected before? I'd like to just get fast enough to win my age group - but that won't happen for another 30 or 40 years .

Just curious. Fill me in.

Don't quote me on this...but I heard that there are about 5000 people that enter the lottery.  I'm guessing this number grows a little each year as the sport grows.

I was able to find one of the few local triathletes here because he won a lottery slot a few years back and it made the local news and was archived. So yes, people do get in that way.

Sounds like a hell of a money maker though!

I entered the Kona lottery for this year!    As much as I am in NO way ready for a full IM  (or HIM for that matter) I entered with the bizarre thought that with all of the odds that are stacked against me, what if this is the year where I would be lucky enough to be picked, but I had not entered?  Maybe I could enter every year and NEVER be picked except for this year!  (maybe its never anyhow)   So long odds or not  I entered.   We'll see what happens.  lol

Yes Virigina there is a Santa Clause.

I won the lottery in 2007 and got to do the race. I know Coredump won in 2006, and there are a few others on the site as well I can't remember of the top of my head. Best 30 bucks I ever spent.

Nice - sounds good. I entered but was wondering afterward if I had wasted my money or not. Either way, it is definitely a nice money maker! As if the $575 (or whatever it was) entry fee this year wasn't good enough. Those power bars must be getting more and more expensive.

I'll let you guys know if I get in. Keep me posted if you entered and you get in!
