Been spitting for over a year and it has worked 100% for me

I'm using TYR Tracer Racing goggles.  Instead of spitting, I actually lick the inside of the goggles before putting them on.   They get a simple rinse in cold water before they are stored away for the day.   Haven't had a single fogging issue.
I wonder if finger tip oils are a culprit?  Just wondering aloud...

My first two pairs of goggles did this to me, which were Speedo. I went to TYR and have never had a problem. After I swim I literally just throw them in my bad with no protection. Two years strong and never had a problem.

For the toothpaste, do you need to put it on just before the swim or will it work the night before the swim? Thanks.

I just bought a pair of Vanguisher's and will try them out tomorrow morning.  I've been swimming for a year with some cheap $8 pair of Leader goggles I got at Wal-Mart that are now scratched up because I just threw them in the gym bag, on the pool deck etc.  They don't fog or leak.  Wouldn't that be a hoot if my new $15 goggles fogged or leaked.  Keep you posted......

I think they still sell those cheap Leaders at Wal-Mart.

FWIW the Speedo Vanquishers worked (No leaks, no fogging) using the "spit" method.  Used 3 times, each for approx. 1.5 hours each time in lap pool.  I think the shape of ones face has a big impact on goggles etc. so this is one of those things that's trial and error.

LostSheep - 2010-02-15 2:46 PM Personally, I spit in them

rinse in the pool, spit in them, rub it around and you're good to go...

or you could buy a really small tube of aquafresh tootpaste - a very small dab smeared around and lightly rinsed works wonders too...

any toothpaste will work and works great

Toothpaste, really? On plastic goggle lenses?  Toothpaste by its very nature is a very good abrasive, I would think this would scratch the lenses?

I'm in a heavily chlorinated pool & also use Speedo Vanquishers.

I tried spit, but it was gross - I needed a fair amount to keep it on.

Now I swear by the anti-fog mini spray that they sell in any sports store. It's totally worth it for antifogging. A $3.50 bottle lasts me nearly half a year, and you can buy a bigger refill for $8 that will definitely last over a year. Worth the small investment if spit's not your style.

Spit works ok—no better or worse than anything else I’ve tried, and it's free.

I dunno, I think the best approach is to just deal with it. It’s not like you’re trying to land an f-14 on a carrier at night. The pool has a big black line down the middle and tris have giant orange buoys to swim around, and both are easy to see, fog or no fog.

The only downside to foggy lenses is when somebody really hot enters the pool area, but then you just do that, “I’m in between sets adjusting my goggles” move.

I had my first experience of fogging with my recently purchased Vanquishers today.  A little bit of spit lasted me through my last 600 meters (which still takes me quite some time).  The Y I swim at uses saline instead of chlorine though.

Spit! I have worn every kind of brand name google for many years and do this. I swish the goggles in the water, spit in them, then rinse. I dont know if I have ever had a race or workout that it didnt work. Of course, now that I have said this.....

I've been doing this for 35 years skin diving, scuba diving and on swim goggles and it works perfect, 100% of the time. I can't belive this doens't work for some. There must be something wrong with your spit.

I could sell you some of mine if you would like me to start saving it up

Spit works just fine for me, too. Spit in each lens, smear it around with a finger, rinse them, shake out the excess water, and put them on. Big benefit over baby shampoo and commercial anti-fog stuff is that you can easily reapply mid-workout if you start having a problem!
