No way! This is a Online Forum and it is our collective duty to blow these sorts of things way out of proportion.

My theory:
Lance picked a downwind course to post some big numbers in an effort to send a message to A.C. that he will be ready come July. That's why he taped over the watts, given the downwind run, they probably weren't all that impressive.

Ever try to hold 35 mph for a long time?  With a 20 mph tailwind guess what ...... you are still fighting a 15 mph headwind from your own effort.  Still need huge power to maintain that sort of speed.

Now A.C. drafting motorcycles and lead cars?  Yeah, that will make him go faster.

Hey! Don't try to apply reason to my purposely outlandish (and perhaps lame attempt at humor) theory.

Plug the numbers into a cycling power program (analyticcycling.com, powercalc, etc.).

Typical roadie on flat course, no wind:  35mph= 650+watts  (holy crap!!!)

Same conditions but 20mph tail wind= ~170 watts  (not quite so impressive)

Motorpacing behind cars= even less watts, but more stones (or stupidity at those speeds)

ooooooohhhh!  Let's take it one step (9 steps?) further:

Lance Armstrong, being completely omniscient in the cycling world, knew EXACTLY how fast Lieto could ride that 14 mile time trial.   SO, he metered his effort to JUST be slightly faster.   Now, El Pistolero (Alberto Contador) sees this, and thinks "Lance can only just beat this triathlon dude in a TT? I've got the TdF in the bag!"

It's all a diabolical, well-planned scheme to lull Contador into a false sense of security.

Considering the hills in this year's Tour are going to kick the old man's azz, it is only an overly optimistic soul who puts their money on LA.  He couldn't hang with the climbers at all this year (other than Mt. Ventoux and considering his hematocrit numbers there were the same as they were at the beginning of the Tour something seems fishy - especially since toward the end of a 3 week race everyone's numbers are lower than when they started.  This INCLUDES Lance in the Giro where that is what happened.  But not in the Tour.  Things that make you go hmmmmmmm).  What makes one think he will be able to hang with the Schleck's or AC on a tougher hilly course?

There is no doubt he is back into form again.  He'll be in great form as a 38-3/4 year old guy.  He'll just have a hard time hanging with the 20 to early 30- somethings.

And someone remind me what TT in a stage he won in any Pro Tour race last year?  Oh, right ........... none.

Sounds like someone is jealous of that 38-3/4 year old guy

Daremo- THis thread is about Lance and Lieto. Why dont you comment on that instead of always giving your diatribe on what Lance cant do.

Good morning to you as well!

As long as people are spouting on what they think Lance can do in a thread then I can certainly give my opinion on what he can't.  Besides, it is still Lance talk.  I can't help it if I am realistic and do not put him up on the pedestal as so many people seem to.

This is an open online forum after all and all opinions are welcome.  Have a nice day and feel free to voice yours!

At least I have kept it civil enough to not get banned again for voicing my opinions on the ever present excessive Lance love.

Oh, and people brought up Contador which is specifically targeted to the "showdown" that will be coming in the TDF.  So it is a relevant post.

I understand all that Daremo, but I believe the idea of threads is to try and stay on topic. Actually, I would be interested in what you think about the TT yesterday.
