I'm in - my first HID after a handful of sprints and olympic distance.  Just finished "driving" the bike course. . . coming back onto Pleasant Valley from 10 mile could be UGLY!  Best wishes for a fun and safe day (sunny around 65, light winds wouldn't hurt either Laughing)

Can you elaborate on this?  Haven't been on the course (and won't until driving it Friday)...any other areas of concern?  Thanks!

I'm not sure what that means.  I ride out there often.  When heading east on 10 Mile Creek, it is gradually uphill all the way, and then there is a short section right before Pleasant Valley where it is a little steep, and then after turning onto Pleasant Valley and heading north, you have to climb a short, fairly steep hill - then there is a downhill section and then another gradual climb until you reach the top of the big downhill section (the curvy portion of PV on the map).

Here's a link to the route on mapmyride.  The turn-around on 10 Mile Creek must be off by a little bit because the course is a little long, but you can at least see the elevation profile.

You hit the nail on the (potato) head!  It's that short, fairly steep hill heading back north on PV AFTER the gradual all the way uphill that will be ugly - for ME anyhow!  Especially if the predicted winds come to fruition!?

Overall I would say this bike course will be easier than last year...that said, a lot will depend on the winds...so far I'm seeing mild winds in the forecast...the air temps may be perfect in the low 70's...I was told today the water temp is around 61...it sure wasn't last Sat morning after the rain on Fri!!
I'm still a bit skeptical about that temperature...I'll be up there every day this week thru Thur...if the rain would just quit I believe we could have water temp in the very low 60's...good luck to all of you......Tom

Tom. . . just looking at numerous forecasts and even though my job (wildland fire) has me fairly attuned to the weather - the winds have my curiosity piqued:  accuwx states N winds @ 28 mph with gust to 55; wx channel = N winds @ 16 while the NWS shows NNW at 7.  It will be interesting to see what we actually have in the water and on the ground!  Best wishes... Tate

Just talked to a meteorolgist friend who said the trough should have pushed through by start time and more realistically the winds should be around 5-7mph - GREAT news, but who knows; we do live in Idaho.

That is outstanding news...although all my training here in E. WA has been in rain and crazy winds.  Sun and calm could absolutely ruin my race daySurprised!  All the best on Saturday...

I usually go by the forecast I like best!!! I'll plan for 7mph winds/little or no waves..it's going to be awesome!! I swam and rode the 1st 8mi of the bike portion then rode back to T1...the water was perfect...good luck to both of you.....Tom

So right after T2 as you come down 8th street there will be a large group on your right behind the library, this is where you will see me yelling at you from.
