Subject: Pfitzinger's comparison between triathlon running and elite runners
After reading the responses to my LTHR related thread I started reading about McMillan, Daniel and running related previous BT threads. After some reference to Pfitzinger, I found and checked the website. There is a comparison in powerpoint in the website between triathlon running and elite runners. Thought I should share.

Here is the link to it.

24-36 hours per week training for Olympic distance events?  I'm a newbie, but this seems like a lot to me.

Sounds like a lot of training time-at least for people with FT jobs/families/etc.

They are talking about elites of course, not us, humble age groupers

For the elite, that kind of volume sounds right.

Thanks for sharing.  I'm a big fan of Pfistzinger's books and thought this PP was interesting.
His coments about the bike are good advice for triathletes coming from a running background.

1.Cycling must be strong so athlete can run well off the bike = bike racing fitness

2.Strategies to run close to “fresh” 10 km pace = Sustained fast running when fatigued

  •Bricks (discussed shortly)
•Run hills followed by intervals (brick without the cycling
•Fatigue legs with exercises (e.g. burpees) before intervals
  •Long drills to maintain technique
