BT peeps who aren't gonna do a practice swim, here's what I can share with you. I went for a 15 minute swim this morning from the blockade runner. You will be COLD waiting for swim start! If you don't have booties, or at least some thick socks to wear prior to swim start, go get some. Booties were awesome! Once you get in the water you will be fine. It was a little chilly, but a lot warmer than the air. It felt good. The cold is really gonna be rough when we come out of the water. Within about 1 minute of coming out of the water, I couldn't feel my fingers. I had trouble just getting out of my wetsuit and putting my cloths on. It feeling nice now though. I think about half an hour on the bike and I will be good!

Good Luck Everyone!!!
After racing the past 2 years, I am volunteering this year. Don't take this the wrong way, but I hope I don't get a chance to meet any of you during the race... I am driving the sweep truck from Blueberry to T2

DanielG - 2010-11-12 3:19 AM  the beach to T1?

There wasn't any last year. There was some indoor/outdoor grass type stuff on the dock and then just asphalt/concrete for the sidewalks and road.

Thanks Dan!

I swam for a few minutes this morning as well, though I did go a couple of hours later.  I wasn't freezing on the beach, but was uncomfortable and didn't want to get in the water.  The water itself was a shock, but after a while the only uncomfortable spot I had on me was my freezing face, which I don't think I can do anything about. :-)  Hands and feet were ok.  There were a couple of people out there with gloves, and people were trying each other's on.  The consensus was that it made you a lot faster.  I'm not sure gloves are needed in this race.

I guess I will see tomorrow if I was an idiot about not getting gloves and/or booties.  The neoprene cap I think helped a lot.

Still teetering on bike clothes. :-(  I have to force it in my head that I (and people in general) ALWAYS overdress.

Don't thank me until you figure out whether it's worthwhile or not

This morning was fun.

Definitely Underarmour Cold Gear long sleeved shirt, bike jersey over that, tri shorts and Nike tights, socks and toe covers. That was COLD!

I'll reevaluate that at special needs and see what I want to ditch.

Hey all!
Swam this morning at Blockade, nice meeting the guys out there.  Booties were good, tried getting a neo cap and gloves but there were out.  Have neo cap that is too small, may try to make it work.  For the bike I am going with base shirt, bike shirt, gloves, hood, arm warmers and shoe covers.  Tried a test ride this morning with just arm warmers and the ride back was cold!

Good luck to everyone tomorrow!!!

Sorry you didn't have anyone Dan.  At least I never said I'd show up. :-)  Everyone's mind is kind of scattered this week with everything going on, and it's hard to get people together.  I bet having the bike check-in open so late makes it even more difficult.

Everyone have a good day out there.

No KIDDING! It traded places with the cold, obviously.

What's with that 70 miles of headwind?

First off, I want to say congratulations to ALL OF YOU!  After my husband and I finished the HIM, we returned to the Hilton, showered and then sat out in front of the hotel to cheer you all on!  You guys are just amazing!  So strong, with iron belief in yourselves.  I've never spectated at the iron distance before and it was an honor to do so.  BIG CONGRATS!!!

Now, onto the race:

I did the HIM and it didn't feel like we had a mega current either (although I know that we had more than the full).  My swim time was 6 minutes slower than Augusta 70.3 (I did the race in '09, it has a very strong current), but only 5:30 minutes faster than FL 70.3 (which is not wetsuit legal, is in a lake and has zero current).  I think the wind/chop may have played into it somewhat for the people in the half-- overall swim times were much slower than last year.

The wind... wow... yes, I suppose that's what provided us with the glorious clear, cool weather but it was definitely a bugger!

The run course was challenging, yet very fair.  As a South FL athlete, I am used to pancake flat races, so I feel exceptionally proud of myself this morning for being able to navigate both of those bridges and the other inclines and interesting challenges (cobbles- loved them) along the run course.  That Ann St. hill hurt more going DOWN (my ITB had flared up) than going up!

Once again, BIG congats!!  Y'all are rock stars!!!

Great job to all of the IM racers.  You guys/gals are studs.

I did the HIM, and it was all I could do to haul my broken self across the finishing line.

Everyone traveling home today, be safe.
