Ohhhhhh Wow.
2010.

I'm back after a long hiatus!  Not a hiatus from training mind you...

Living in Victoria, working about 15 hours a week, and training FULL TIME.  I'm working with Noa Deutsch of PT Performance Training here in Vic, and I'm on here "elite" team with 4 other athletes.  It's been AMAZING so far, being surrounded by people with the same ambitions I have, to make triathlon a career.

The plan was to race elite this year, but unfortunately the powers that be at TriBC do not agree that I deserve to have my Elite card.  Therefore I'm looking to get it mid-year by coming top 5 in some Olympic distance races early in the season.  Hopefully this works!

Also, I'm using a new blog,  http://derderwl.blogspot.com/, which contains pretty much all the information about my triathlon-ing!

Hope everyone is doing AWESOME and I hope to see you guys out at local racesssssss!

Totally fell off the training wagon over the winter and got in some sporadic swims, a few runs and a few rides when it was nice out, but nothing too serious. March 1 is my new New Year's Day. Still aiming for a late season 1/2 iron and the Victoria Marathon this year, working up to IMC next year. Started today with a nice 20K ride in the sunshine at a reasonable pace to work out the stiffness and the kinks, running around Burnaby lake tomorrow, and should be up to last year's average training volume in a few weeks.

Goal for the year is 5 olympic races, Victoria Marathon and whatever the last possible 1/2 iron is.

Wooooo!

Here is my race schedule for the summer (tentative!):

Bazan Bay 5k
: March 7th
Times Colonist 10k
: April 25th
Vancouver Sun Run 10k: May 9th
Shawnigan Olympic Tri: May 30th
Gerick's WASA Tri: June 13th
New Balance Victoria Sprint Tri: June 20th
Peach Classic Olympic Tri: July 18th
(?) K-Town Long Course Tri: August 1st
Sooke Olympic Tri: August 8th
Kelowna Apple Olympic (Nationals!!): August 20-22
(?) Vancouver Olympic Tri: September 6th

My focus is back to Olympic distance, since my coach wants me racing on the ITU Continental Cup circuit next year, and hopefully once I get the run standard for world cups (32:40) I can MAYBE train with the NTC.  That's pretty long term though.  This year is just to build a resume so I can start looking for more serious sponsors etc.  As I said before, I'm trying to get my elite card mid-year, so hopefully that works out too!

Jon, are you doing IMC again this year?
And Paul, I'm doing the Peach in Penticton as well as Nationals in Kelowna (hopefully the draft legal race!!!!).

Derek - I'll try to make it out to a couple of those. Hope the season goes well for you! I'm not doing IMC this year, I'll be doing a few halfs and trying to work on my cycling. I'll be doing it again next year for sure!

Sweet Derek! Sounds like your doing well man, good luck with your efforts man, you are gonna kill it this year, show those TRI BC guys up!
2010 should be a great year especially with the Olympics coming up. I've been training somewhat hard with focussing on my swimming in the Pac Spirit Tri Club, and just bought a KK bike trainer so thats kickin already. I hear back from the BC forest service in a few weeks to see if Im fighting fires for the summer so thats why I havent registered in any races yet. I should get the job and depending on when I have to set up camp Ill try for the Delta Sprint and possibly UBC Olympic in mid-May. I figure if I'll only improve my fitness level over the summer albeit not doing much practical training and do the Vancouver Tri in September solely on that.
Anyways, your blogs cool and hope to communicate a bit more on here as I need to kill some more time at work!

Sophmore season this year, I really fell off training in November so i've got a lot of work to do. Planning to do Delta, UBC, Vancouver, Iron Mountain, Sun Run and a few I can't remember. I believe one or two of those will be as the swimming leg on a relay squad though.

anyways, good luck to you all this season. I hope it's a successful and safe one for you all.
