Total Time = 1h 01m 46s
Overall Rank = 20/63
Age Group = M25-29
Age Group Rank = 5/9
Pre-race routine:

Left hotel in Albany and Arrived about 1h 30m early. Picked up packet, body marking and setup transition area.
Event warmup:

0.5mi warmup run on beach and a cpl strokes in the water.
Swim
  • 05m 21s
  • 300 meters
  • 01m 47s / 100 meters
Comments:

Official time of 6:25 includes swim & T1.

My personally recorded split of 5:21 includes the 200-250M beach run to the water entrance and then the 300M swim. I think the swim distance may not have been 300M since the run took about 35s that means I did 300M in 4:46. That is a pace of 1:35.3/100M or 1:27.2/100Yds. I've never swam that distance at that pace before. Then again this was a straight swim unlike swimming in a pool with turnarounds. Overall my Swim+T1 was 4th. I think I was actually 7th or 8th out of the water.
What would you do differently?:

I was happy with this swim although I still need to work on my breathing. Did 1/2 the race breathing on 2 and 1/2 on 3.
Transition 1
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

Helmet must have adjusted smaller while it was packed b/c I had to adjust it in T1. Besides that, everything else was good. I was a little slow getting started as the mounting area (and first 300M) was on the beach.
What would you do differently?:

Try my helmet on pre-race.
Bike
  • 34m 25s
  • 10 kms
  • 17.43 km/hr
Comments:

Official time of 35:25 includes bike & T2.

Had to come out of cages a cpl times to prevent falling. At around 8k I lost control...i landed on my feet, but the bike went flying. Got back on...front wheel was rattling. Realized front skewer was open. Stopped and fixed that but something else (maybe a bearing???) in the front axel was broken or messed up b/c the tire was still wobbling...basically bouncing b/t the two break pads. Got passed by 5-6 ppl early and another 5-6 after the tire issue.

Heard from more than I racer who had computers that the course was more like 5.4mi and not 6.2mi.

What would you do differently?:

Borrow a bike that has front suspension and practice more trail riding beforehand (only did 3 trail rides prior to the race)
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

No major issues.
Run
  • 19m 56s
  • 2.4 miles
  • 08m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

They had two gatorade stations and they were both in the first 0.4mi. Kinda dumb if you ask me. Wish they had one midway b/c I could have used it.

Heard ppl commening that they felt the run was longer that 2.4....i kinda tend to agree....but not by much, maybe one or two tenths.
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out on the beach and waited for my cousin to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Biggest limiter was my bike and not training enough for trail rides...not having front suspension slowed me down and the whole front tire issue didn't help.

Event comments:

Lot of driving (4.5hrs each way) for a short race, but it was fun. They had a post race raffle...my bib number got pulled and I purchased some extra tickets too.

Wish they had split teams out of the overall results. I believe there were 3 teams of the 63 total participant count, one of which I know beat me.

No argument here....its actually kinda cool to think that I was 3rd (I originally posted 4th but then realized that row 1 was the header in my spreadsheet) in the race after T1. Chances are I'll never be able to say that again!
