...you think floating upside down in a slow flip turn is a nice break.

How do you know you're tired in a workout?

you're trying to have some GU while riding and get all frustrated when it's not going into your mouth until you realize ripping the top might help.

or the classic unclipping your left foot and leaning to the right. that's always fun. especially in the left turn lane of a busy intersection.

This just happened to me yesterday, I did 90 minutes of spin class and have also been working out a lot more lately and went to open my gym locker and completely blanked on the combination to the lock.  I have been using this lock for at least ten years.  They had to cut it off.    I can't explain it.   So I will just write it off to fatigue thanks to this thread.

(Four hours later the combo popped into my head.)

when you are at mile 2 of a 13 mile run, look up and are back at your car 70 min later. sit down in your car, and wake up an hour later still sitting there and wondering why you are in your car in the dark.

ha ha ha

When you are 40 miles into a 50 mile trainer ride, stop to curse at your legs for being tired, and then stop again to curse at your trainer one mile later.

When you have to break your 2500 yard continuos swim down into 50 yard segments, cuz thats all you have left in you and even that is pushing it.

When you consider stoplights a good place to take a nap.

When you have to walk up stairs with two feet on each step and use the handrail.

When you are having trouble remaining mounted on your bike, and having trouble maintaining enough momentum to keep from tipping over... on the flat.

When after a marathon in the rain (40F or colder with wind), you are sitting on the cement... in the rain trying to figure out whether you want to sit there and continue into  hypothermia or attempt to walk to the car and it takes you a while to figure out which you want to do.

when you're on a long run and you hear the garmin beep and you think to yourself "crap, I still have 8 miles to go". Then a few minutes later you're seeing the school that's close to your home and you start thinking " how the heck did I get here?" you only have one mile to go not 8, but you don't remember the last 7.

or at my last marathon at around mile 22-23 I start thinking of cutting my feet off, laying down in the grass and bleeding out because that sounds so peaceful.

Related, when you hear the Garmin beep to indicate that you've gone over your HR zone and instead of thinking "shoot, now I have to slow down" you think "sweet, now I can walk!".

You know you are tired when it's all you can do to keep from dropping the chain onto the granny ring, on a mountain bike, on flat paved trail, and you get passed by an old lady on a comfort bike.

...you're running a 50k, but your Garmin is tracking distance in miles. You try to calculate your remaining time using the distance on the Garmin, freak out because you'll never make the cut-off, get confused because you were sure you're pace was just fine to finish and then realize that all those tough calculations had to do with miles and not km.

When you seriously consider calling a cab to avoid the above mentioned scenario^^^^.

When lying down, during a race, seems completely reasonable.

When you can't even imagine eating, even though you are starving-I hate this one!!!

When laying on the concrete of the pool deck sounds like a good idea, instead of walking into the locker room to get ready for work.

Or when taking a quick 30min nap on the garage floor after a trainer ride, is acceptable b/c your wife won't let you lay on the furniture all nasty.

When you're doing a tempo run on a dreadmill, 1/2 way in you can't keep up with your tempo and your feet keep running off the back of the treadmill.  You could slow your tempo but you don't want the girl running next to you see you slow your pace, so you HTFU on only to eat it 2 minutes later. Pretty embarrasing, and painful too!

When you are on the last few miles of an 18 mile run and don't care whose flower garden it is because it looks nice and soft and if you're not home in a few hours your wife will come looking for you and find you in the flower bed.(Almost did it)

When you actually have to force yourself to climb out of the pool before you fall asleep in it.

When you climb off your bike after a tough workout and can barely stand because your legs feel like jelly....and then try to run.

When you feel like letting yourself sink to the bottom of the pool because it looks like a nice place to rest.......I usually get this on my swims after my 12hr night shifts.

You consider leaving your toddler in the babysitting room for a day or so because there is no way you can carry him all the way to the car and wrestle him into the car seat.

a little off topic, but you know you're tired BEFORE a workout when you slam your finger in the car door at 4 am on the way to your swim and don't even wince, cry, swear or flinch (you just tell yourself, "it figures..."). you try to pull it out and realize its stuck, dislodge it, go grab some ice and still head to the pool. I am a zombie during the week, I swear!
