Sunny
Total Time = 1h 35m 36s
Overall Rank = 89/151
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 4/9
Pre-race routine:

First time to use tri bag. Worked great. Had all the gear in a back pack. Strapped it on and rode to the tranistion area. Unpacked layed out all the gear. Very stress free
Event warmup:

Jogged .5 a mile on the run course. Did some stretching.
Swim
  • 00m
  • 1760 yards
  • / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim cancelled due to water tempature of 54 degrees.
Transition 1
  • 00m 29s
Comments:

Wore shoes from a short jog start. Due to no swim they did a 4 second start for each person. You had choice of wearing biking shoes, bearfoot, or running shoes. I wore my biking shoes. Jogged to the bike and ran out of transistion.
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to lock shoes in pedals. Practice before next tri in Apri.
Bike
  • 51m 42s
  • 18 miles
  • 20.89 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike overall. I would have like to get 21 MPH or higher. I slowed a couple of times due to trying to take in Salt tablets and a GU. Had I known I would have pushed a little harder at end to get the 21 MPH.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I had only bike a couple of times in the three weeks leading up to the race due to a patella inflamation. I think I could have beaten 21 and possibly 22 MPH on this course. But given where I was I was good with 20.
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

Camae off the bike a little slow at 1 mm. I had not practiced this and was a little slow. At the time I would not thought the time here would have been important but given the distance the mm was in the overall rate in my age group.
What would you do differently?:

Practice the tranistion before next TRI
Run
  • 42m 23s
  • 5 miles
  • 08m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

8:30 Pace was good given I had only run a couple of times in the last three weeks due to knee. I was happy with it.
What would you do differently?:

Train more leading up to the race and do bricks. This was the first brick I have done. It made me realize I need to several more before my HIM.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Knee injury three weeks from the race.

Event comments:

I thought that NTC did not put a lot into this race. I thought they made the correct decision on not doing the swim. The bike course was OK. The run was terrible. The course with Sand and roots at start was terrible. They could have done a better job on the course but I felt they were more interested in getting the pros started. If you finished by 1 hour and 45 minutes they called your name as you came across the finish line. The announcer left to go introduce the pros on the beach. Their race was starting at 12:00. No one did any announcing after he left which I thought was a shame. The food after the race was not bad. There was no awards ceremony I guess they didn't think it was important. They put the awards on a table and you checked the tally sheet and if you were a winner you went up to the table and grabbed a award. I thought that was terrible. Overall the race was not even avg. I would not do it again or another race that NTC host they did a terrible job.

Course: Course was very loose sand at beginning of run. I did not like this. There was exposed roots in the sand. The race was run on mostly dirt roads until the last 1/2 mile on pavement. Overall I did not like the run course.
