Pre-race routine:

Woke up 5:30ish, my daughter get in bed with me she slept sideways. Made coffee and oatmeal. Ate, drank. Dropped her off, this was my girlfriend's first race. So she was over. Drove down, parked, got our shirts dropped them in the car.
Event warmup:

Jogged a bit with some strides, high stepping, butt kicks. Went to the front of the line and ran some more, I was in maybe the 3rd row from the front. Awesome place to start. No excuses.

  • 3.11 miles

Comments:

Good run. I pushed. Really had nothing left in the end.
What would you do differently?:

Push more. Wear more supportive shoes. I could have pushed a bit more, there was a little while where I thought I was going to easy.

First time wearing racing flats since November. Felt it in my shins. Shins/calfs were hurting towards the end.

Run more miles that last two weeks.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked for a minute, then stood around freezing, waiting for my GF to finish. She as right at 31min.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Push more? Different shoes? Run more miles?

Event comments:

5k Race PR. Happy with that. Very organized start, good course. Way too many people crammed in Toad's Place afterward.

Aaron, Good Race.  Don't be disappointed!!  99% of the world's population will never run a sub 20 5k.  And besides, you're an endruance athlete.  You gave it your best, and your best was pretty damn good!!  Congrats on a sick PR!    And congrats to the GF   That's awesome you found a girl who's into running!!

We are SO FORTUNATE to be healthy enough and motivated enough to run a race like this.  And even more fortunate to run it as fast you did! Great job and congrats on the PR!
