Pre-race routine:

Got up and ate 2 waffles and a protein shake and some coffee. Michele and I got our stuff together and headed to Boulder.

Event warmup:

Ran a bit with Michele and Hit the porta pottie at least 3 times. It was pretty cold so I went with the an ear band, gloves, long sleeve shirt and tights. Lined up near the front and got ready!

Comments:

Ran with a bottle of infinite. That was perfect! Had one gel at mile 9 I think. So I started out front as I knew I would be near the front. Of course all the 10k and 10 milers were up front as well, we all started together which made it hard to key off of people.
Mile 1-went by quickly and I tried to find a rhythm, mile 2 was getting tough as the wind was at our face just stayed at my pace. I wanted to come back much harder and I knew that it would be downhill and with the wind. Mile 3-5 were just slow with the wind and hills, 7 minute pace? People were going by me, not sure if they were 10k, 10 mile, or half marathoners. Just stayed in my zone. After the turn around I dropped the hammer as you can see by my mile splits, a 6:04 mile, nice. Passed alot of people who went out in front of me. I went by so fast I was stunned! Kept the pace and had 2 guys go by me, man they were running well. I neg splitted by over 2 minutes so I was happy. I bit bummed that I was 4th in the agegroup by less than 20 seconds. Oh well the goal is still Boston and I ran as well as I could.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, ran my plan.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to the car and got on dry clothes as it was getting really cold. Watched my wife finish in 1:50:?? and we packed up and headed home to go eat at Old Chicagos. Man was that good.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wind, hills. No hill training to speak of but my mile repeats clearly helped in the end.

Event comments:

Not a bad race. It was cool they had a big digitron with all the agegroup top 5 runners and I was up there!
