Has anyone in here done the Atomic Man Tri?  We are looking for our 1st 70.3, and this is one we're considering.  Everything looks good, except for one thing:  "The Quad-Busting Hill" that is described on their website.  Any comments?

We live on the floodplain of the Mississippi river (in Mississippi), which means that the incline going over railroad tracks is literally one of the largest hills in the area.  So, needless to say, we don't spend a whole lot of time climbing.  Obviously we would go train in some hills, but a year ago we did a half marathon near Knoxville that was described as "relatively flat with some rolling hills" that I would describe as "hilly, with a couple of flats".  In East TN speak, does a "quad-buster" translate into something I would need rappelling gear for?

I have done the race two times...The bike has about 8 climbs...4 on each loop.    It is a challege, but remember what goes up must come down...the run is moderately hilly.   Look is a small race, but well run.   The swim is always wetsuit legal, its in a calm body of water.

This is NOT an IM event in the sense that there will be thousands of people around, etc.   Let me know if you have some specific questions.

I heard one lady call the hill that leads to the finish line (yes, uphill) "Crybaby Hill."  Not sure if that is the Quad-Buster or not.

This is great info, I am registered for this race as my first half distance race.  I live in the area, but have not checked out the course yet.  I'll let you know what I find when I do.

Get out and try the course...its a great workout...actually there is one more climb at the half way point, so make that 9 good climbs...but you get to go down hill 9 times as well...

I'll more than likely be there.  Gotta get a few things taken care of before I register.

it's steep, but not long...you'll crest about the time you start hurting...it's not bad. certainly nothing to worry about (and, for what it's worth, i live and train in flat-as-a-pancake memphis)...

I want the Atomic Man to be my first 1/2 iron also. What about the heat? I run mostly on trails and am not ready for 13 miles of blazing sun. Will this be a hot run?

I'm doing this race. Never have done this distance and I am not really prepared. I have heard about the hard bike course though. I just am looking to finish.
Who all is wearing a wetsuit?

I am going to be there. Not sure if I am going to wear a wetsuit or not. I think I will make the decision once I am there. I know I will be much faster with it.

Looks like we are going to have great weather. I am so excited and cant wait for next weekends race.

probably not the best way to go into a 1/2 IM distance... still a long tough race.

I am in for this one as well.  Coming up from GA.  Coach says to do one more HIM before my IM in Kona in 40 days so this is the one.  Sounds painful.....perfect....haha

See everyone up there.
