So with the warm weather on its way, I am really looking forward to starting to ride again.  My bike legs are a bit out of shape, so hopefully a few warm weekends will take care of that.

Just wondering if there is anyone south of the city that knows of any bike groups that meet up for rides?  We have some great country roads out here for some nice long rides.

Don't know any out Plainfield way but I do know of South Chicago Wheelmen here in the far South Burbs.

Joliet Bike Club does a whole lot of rides at a bunch of different skill levels and is cheap to join ($15/year).

Also - I know there's a tri group out of Endure-It in Naperville... not sure if you need to be in their group to ride with them, though.

Cool, I didn't realize there was one in Joliet.  I thought it might be fun for us to join a group, though we do have to ride the Fox River trail again now that it is getting nice out and my legs are able to pedal a bike for more than 15 minutes.

There really is **nothing** like a milk shake halfway through a ride to motivate you!  But the downside is the milkshake in your stomach for the ride back.

I'm in Romeoville.  Personally, I mostly ride alone.  However, I do make trips up to St. Charles for road rides and to Palos Woods on the MTB.  During the week I do a ride along the frontage roads on I55 and the industrial parks in Boilingbrook.  If I ride here on the weekends I'll extend that onto the I&M trail north to Willow Springs for 75 miles.  Other than the ones menetioned already, Downers Grove has a club and American Bicycle has a club as well.

I ride a lot of the same roads as you do (Frontage Loop, Internationale Pkwy,).  Since you're from Romeoville, I'm sure you've ridden the Centennial Trail...which runs along the south side of the Des Plaines (opposite of I&M Canal Trail).  I love the new extension they just paved last year, extending the path all the way from the Willow Springs entrance to 135th St...just about 12 miles one way, so makes for a nice 25 mile out and back ride.   There is some nice riding in the Burr Ridge area, too...just north of the trail's Willow Springs entrance.  German Church Road and 79th Street are both awesome riding roads...with some nice hills.   As are Madison Street and 91st Street.   We also like riding the stretch of Archer Ave, just south of the trails and over the bridge...we usually ride it west to where it intersects with Rt. 83, but then we make a left turn (illegal, but we obviously look out for traffic) on to 107th Ave and head back east to 104th Ave and take that north back to Archer.  Best to do that one really early on a Sunday morning, when traffic is low...because there is very little shoulder to ride on.
