Smoak, are you anxious to start racing?  This event is still 11.5weeks away!  I didnt think I would be racing this event this year, but screw it, everyone is doing it.

I'm in. BTW, what historically has been the water temps? I usually wait 'til mid season to do a tri....too cheap to buy a wetsuit. Maybe I'll need one this year? Of course 400m, maybe I'll only have to put up with it for 9 minutes or so....? Could be a good moivator to get the heck out of the lake quicker!

It's been chilly, but about 60/40 split wetsuits to no wetsuits.  They do also rent them out at registration if you're interested.  I have a couple older medium size wetsuits if that happens to be your size...

I'm in for the group start, and no matter what the water temps are I am wearing my wetsuit! Not a fan of cold water and the new wetsuit has been in my closet untouched for over a year!

I'm registered

If anyone has concerns about the water temp... I swam without a wetsuit last year, and the water was... very, very, very, very refreshing (aka COLD), but not unbearable.  I AM particularly well-insulated, though, so I need to throw that in the mix, too.

Hooray for me... this year I found an Xterra wetsuit sale, so I expect to be slightly less refreshed for my second attempt at Hawk-I

I'm in!  And I'm a newbie...  I just joined the Playmakers Tri group.  Any tips or advice on training and/or race day would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome greengrl.  You'll find this is a very helpful site.  There are several others from the Lansing area on this site.  The Playmakers Tri group is great if you can fit their workouts into your schedule.  I hope to see you running/biking around town.

I'm in for the group start too!

I'll start looking at a couple of weekends where we can do a few trial runs for those interested.  Last year we set up a trial run of the course so that you can go at your own pace and get a good visual on the bike/run course. The water temps are bearable, though I used a half suit last year; several people go at it with only a tri suit.

The bike course is pretty easy, one section on Mt Hope Rd has a lot of potholes, but last year they were well marked with (semi) highvis paint.

The run is an out and back that has a brief trail section.  Last year the run had to be rerouted due to rainwater covering part of the course... but it was still an out and back.  The Captial City River Run goes along this run route too.  It's mostly paved and in a shady wooded area.  The run is flat and fun.

I've done this race a couple of times and it's VERY beginner friendly.  Great atmosphere and lots of friendly volunteers. I did hear that this year the registration is bumped up to 800.  Good times!

I'd be in for the practice run the week before as well (is that Memorial Day weekend?). I'm registered now! Smile

First tri for me as well. Definitely interested in some sort of pre-race weekend to check things out.

This will be my first tri & was wondering if there was a map of the cycling part.  Just want to get an idea of route.
Thanks,

Here's what is currently posted on their website...there may be some changes due to an evil stretch of Mt. Hope Rd. in East Lansing.

http://southlansing.org/HawkIslandTriathlon/Maps/tabid/383/Default.aspx

It's mostly flat.

This will be my last tri if I do it.  I'd be open to selling my registration to anyone who really wants to do this race.  Its a great race.  In the past they have allowed registration transfers.

As far as a practice, I am out because of Bayshore on Memorial Day weekend.

Have fun at practice.  2 years ago, it was my 1st introduction to BT and I met Matt, Jaclyn, Ranger, Polly, Brickey, and Jenniferlyn.  The practice was great and really calmed my nerves for my 1st tri.
