Total Time = 1h 17m 16s
Overall Rank = 42/350
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 7/18
Pre-race routine:

Breakfast of an Ultramet shake mixed with water, orange juice and red bull. Also took 4 muscle nitro and 2 multivitamin. Followed Brian's races reports from PersonalBestNutrition.com
Event warmup:

Very short ride to make sure bike in working order and 100yd swim
Swim
  • 13m 3s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim overall, decent sighting.
What would you do differently?:

Need to get my breathing under control earlier
Transition 1
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

Wetsuit came off very easily. Ran into a guy in the mounting area, but neither of us fell. He ended up passing me in the first 200 meters. Overall, a good transition
What would you do differently?:

Practice cyclecross mounts more and getting into shoes quicker
Bike
  • 39m 46s
  • 13.8 miles
  • 20.82 mile/hr
Comments:

Had a hard time getting heart-rate down from the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Should have taken corners faster and hammered up the hills. In a sprint, I really need to push it. Drank to much Cytomax, need to drink less and dillute it more.
Transition 2
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

Fast transition, other than loosing a shoe on the dismount. Took about 5 seconds to retrieve it.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 22m 20s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

Left leg and hip really hurt after the bike. Took about 10 minutes for the pain to go away and get my running legs.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder on the run. I got into a good groove, but could have run faster. I need to realize it's only 3 miles and really push it.
Post race
Warm down:

Basic stretching and Endurox

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Left leg hurting on run and overall motivation.

Event comments:

Great race, well organized and fast run course. Close to home and a lot of fun. Had a great time riding in my first race with my Felt S25 and QR Hydrofull wetsuit.

Sounds like you had a great race, Derek - good time on the swim!
I was hoping to get over there to watch for awhile, but I got to take my son to t-ball instead. No complaints, though!

Regards,
Kevin

Nice race - that's some "cooler" water you had to swim in...great T1 time with wetsuit removal!
