Commando under the bike shorts for both boys and girls. No wearing the bike shorts 2 days in a row...change immediately after your ride and if you don't shower, use a cleaning cloth to help decrease bacterial load in the private area in order to prevent boils and other nasties down there.

i've gone on several 70 milers last year. no problems. but then again, i'm a climber, so i don't spend nearly as much time in the saddle as some others.

I was just teasing.

On a more serious note, if you've never had chafing and are doing 70 mile rides, then consider yourself very fortunate. However, I'm willing to bet that once you try a few rides sans boxers you won't go back. Besides, training should mimic race day, and you won't be wearing boxers while you swim I hope!

Best of luck.

And once you are "At home " with that prospect - consider this.... go on ebay and search for " cycling shorts " - and see just how active the "pre-loved" section is......

I wear Nike Pro compression shorts under my bike shorts. I don't like the feeling of slimy swamp a$$, so no butter for me!

I rarely get any chafing.

Ok... I'll wade into this forum. I ride a LOT... and I do wear underwear under my bike shorts. Normally the rides are shorter commutes (20km), but even on ultra-long rides (100-200km), I find that I get less chaffing and am more comfortable with the shorts. Having to wear chamois creamed up bike shorts twice is bad... and since I do a LOT of commuting to work and have to wear the same shorts twice, I like my solution.

Yes, my bike shorts are tight... skin tight... but I try to avoid the cotton underwear on long rides and wear micro-fiber or dry weave type boxer briefs... basically skin tight material, that doesn't chaff at all. Saves on having to use any type of goop which can ruin your expensive bike shorts. In my opinion.

Seriously Kevin?? Wow.........undies ....never figured you for the undies under the bike shorts type.....

I have never used any kind of chamois cream.....no problemo.

That's what they say. However, I'm with you, and the undergarment has never caused me any problems.
