Illini sprint tri - 4/24

I'm leaning towards doing it. I've been on the fence for a while about it while. It's a "snake" pool swim and that worries me. I love swimming in my wet suite and open water. So we'll see.

I'm on the fence as well.  Snake pool swims really clog up at the end of the lanes.  I also need to find reasonably priced accomodations.

I am signed up for this race. I also did it last year.

SWIM - yes it is a snake swim. yes it takes a long time to get everyone in the water. upside is the pool is 50m so at least you can get some sort of rhythm before turning.

BIKE - from what i remember, a flat and fast bike course with adequate volunteer/police presence to close down intersections. i did have to slow at a major crossing, but no stopping.

RUN - also flat, but not fast because last year's route went through one of the quads on campus and there were students EVERYWHERE on the sidewalk where we were supposed to be running. i know a lot of people commented about this so hopefully it's fixed for this year.

OVERALL - last year was the first running, so things should be even better in 2010. it's a nice little race, i'm using it to kick off my tri season. also doing sullivan on sunday!

You would think that because I live in Champaign area now, I would do this race.

But no, I as well will be doing Sullivan the next day.

All you fence-sitters...come on, you know it'll be fun. 

As for Sullivan being a better race, perhaps it is.  I suppose as an alumnus of UIUC I want to a.) support the student athletes in charge of the race, and b.) race on my old campus.  Que up Bruce Springsteen's song, 'Glory Days'...

And like I said earlier, it's hard to be old college haunts for a post-race beer.

I will be there, but not racing.  I guess I will go old school and just watch.
