Subject: Am I doing something wrong?
Been working on building my distances and trying to cut my times for an Oly in October.
February 27th swam 2150 in hour 15, since then I have not been able to break 1000, began to increase run March 16th ran longest distance 2.75 in 36 minutes. since then I have not been able to get over  2 miles. Today i did 10 miles on the spin cycle, cranked up a good ways (It has been to cold to get more than 2 outsides in this year.
I have been pushing the Swimming, done some 10x 50's and 2x 500's etc.. for speed but it seems like my endurance is slipping. in the running Ihave been moving from 12 min/ mile to 1:45 and 11:30's
Am I pushing to much am I not resting enough?

I don't think pushing too much is your problem.  Why don't you follow a plan?

Am I reading right that you did 2150 in 1 hr, 15 min? I know I'm not the fastest swimmer around, but that seems real odd to me...that's a little over 4:30/100. You could almost walk that much in the pool in that time frame. I'm assuming your 1hr15min is with breaks, but how much (time and how often) are you resting to get that 2150? When you "struggle" to get to 1000, how long is that taking you? How's your form? Do you have the availabilty (time and finances) for a coach? Just some suggestions on the swim.

Hi Verga,
From reading your post and looking at your logs, I really think you should think about getting a swim coach. You put in a fair amount of swimming last year, but your average time for doing 100m's and the fact that you're not able to break 1000m's distance-wise probably says your stroke is VERY inefficient, thus making you work WAY too hard w/out going very fast or far.

I bet having someone to help you on your form would make a world of difference for you.

This.

For awhile I was following my own random "plan" and not making much progress.  Once I started following a plan things got easier and progress came much faster.  Plans are not simply a convenience but with a good one (try one of the BT plans) there is research and experience behind them.  As I posted on my FB status last night.   Trust the Plan.  The Plan works.

Here's a link to the 20 week Swim Focused Olympic plan from BT.  http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/cms/article-detail.asp?articleid=44

Yep you read it right, no breaks straight through, I am dead slow in the water.
My time for a mile the first time I did one was and 1 1/2 hours.
