So today I finally got off the fence, and registered for the 2010 Muncie Endurathon. I'm doing the long course triathlon. Looking forward to it, but I'm a little worried about being prepared especially on the bike. Anyone else from Columbus planning on being there?

The short, edited version is MONSOON last year and 2008.  :-

The run is rollers around the reservoir.  Bike course can be windy on the way out, but if it is, you'll fly on the way back.

Swim was choppy and hard to sight last year due to wind .

BUT it's a GREAT race and venue!

thanks man. so swim and run are presumably a single loop?, bike is an out and back? hows the elevation on the bike?

hopefully no monsoons this year! we are making our way back to ball state after 14 years from Ga.

No elevation on the bike, it's very fast course. The wind can slow you a bit, but just remember to push when you have that tail wind, without blowing up in the headwind. The best part about the bike course is that it's entirely closed, and very smooth, so you get to race without the stress of cars. The only weird part is that you ride on a bike path for about 5miles.

Run was hillier than I expected, but it's also mostly shaded. It's an out and back, so you get to see all the other racers the whole time. Swim is a single loop.

Great race! I wish I could come back this year!!

No, the best part of the bike course is that the city of Muncie is REPAVING that hidiously bumpy chip seal section as you come around the north side of the reservoir!  It actually rattled my computer off my bike my first year!

No, no elevation gain on the bike.  Bike is an out and back but slightly different "back" the last 5 miles.  Run is out and back with a killer hill in the last mile.

The swim course last year was better as far as the sun not shining in your eyes and you could actually see the shore after the last turn...well, you would have been able to see the shore if the rain drops hadn't been splashing in your eyes!  :-)

Oh, and you're welcome, but I'm a girl.  :-)

Alice, we thought about taking the trailer there in 2008, but ended up just staying in a hotel since it was just for one night.  About 1/2 mile north of the transition area is a campground ran by the City of Muncie.  We took a drive through there the day before the race and were kinda of glad we didn't stay there.  Seemed more like a trailer park with lots of run down seasonal type trailers, some that looked like they had been there for awhile.   In 2008 you could call the park and reserve a spot, not sure how it works now.   Here's a link:

So what are the decent hotel's in Muncie. I was thinking about the Best Western, and the Comfort Inn based on internet reviews. Comfort is kinda pricey though

Thanks for all the help. I am registered to camp at the park where the race is. They are very low-key there. The lady told me if I was too tired to pay on race day, I could just pay them the next day. :-)

The bumpy part of the bike course that everyone complains about has been paved.  So the bike course will be even better.

Does anyone know what nutrition products are usually provided? The website says TBD, but I'd like to start training with whatever they are going to have.

I sent an email and haven't received a response yet.

Nutrition Info:

"We are working out the final details at this time; however, looks like it will be lemon-lime Gatorade on both the bike & run and Hammer Nutrition gels and endurolytes on the course and at the finish line.  We will post on the web site when all is finalized.  Let us know if you have additional questions.  See you in July.

I am going to go over around 4 or so.  Will try to attend 4 pm race meeting, but may have to wait until 6.  I am having my fit checked at BSU at 2. ( I know, no changes right b4 a race!).  But I'm not racing this one.  This is strictly practice for IM.  Or so I keep telling myself!Smile

Maybe we could pick an area/time to meet?

Good idea, Amy. I meet a fellow BTer just randomly at the swim start of June's Oly in Muncie because I recognized her from her profile pic. It was fun to make that connection and watch for her throughout the race. This is my first time for the Endurathon and this distance so I have to be at the expo for the required meeting. I'm planning on going to the 4:00 one like Greg. Picking a spot and time makes sense.

I'm getting VERY excited and nervous.

And it appears both of us made the podium that day and we didn't meet each other.  I was a "celebrity" there as the only one who crashed and the only person to see the Doc in the medical tent!

I will post what I will be wearing on this thread closer to Friday so maybe that will help us find each other.

Oh, Greg, what a way to be a celebrity. Obviously you survived and weren't too badly injured since you're racing again. I was on the podium because I was the only one in the old ladies AG. I can guarantee no podium spot for the Endurathon so I'm just going to enjoy the journey. I'm majorly impressed with you folks who use this as a warm up for an IM.

Oh, don't be impressed at all, at least about me.  I am really concerned about my chances of even finishing my first IM.  This HIM will be tough for me and part of the reason I am going to take it easy is so I can continue training this week before and continue on next week with my plan.  I am really hoping that when I finish on Saturday I will gain a little confidence that I can be ready for my IM by September.

Oh, and I do remember you getting on the podium, because I recall someone being the only one to be called up in an age group.  Hey, a win is a win!  That still means on that day at that event you were the fastest in your AG!

Is the meeting only required for first time endurathon racers?  I raced this in 2008?

I will plan to be at the expo before 4:00.  How early can everyone meet?  3:30?  Maybe outside the expo door?  Any other suggestions?

I am 5'9" with red/blond hair.  Oh, I look like my pic!!  LOL!
