I am anticipating 19 degrees, 40mph wind gusts, and freezing sleet mixed with hail.

I ran it that year.

Good Times?

Last Medium-Long Run tomorrow - 10-miler just under target Marathon Pace.  Then HARD Taper.

Weather is looking scary good.  41 degrees to start, 50 degrees by the finish, some clouds.  If that comes to be, a lot of people should get ready to PR!!

Similar run for me today.... just curious - what do you mean when you say HARD taper? I'm assuming you mean keeping higher intensity runs?? That will be my strategy, too.

I will keep some intesity through Strides, for sure; but by Hard Taper I mean drastic or sudden and sharp decline in workouts.  I don't mean "Hard" as in the opposite of "Easy".   It's by no means a 'techinical term' and now that I think about it, it's perhaps a poor choice of words cause the last 3 to 4 days before the Race will be super EZ.

Ran a hard 5k race yesterday, now its time to really back off...

Going to do my runs this week based on feel instead of plan.  Not going to go out for a run if I dont "feel like it"...

I would probably be enjoying the rest if I didnt immediatly fill up the extra time with all sorts of other things that need to get done that I neglected during the high volume run weeks.

Its a beautiful day outside and I want nothing more than to go run 10 miles or so...  But I cant do that... and I am stuck at work...

But yes, not running crazy mileage this week is a nice change of pace...

I've been feeling kind of tired, too! I actually feel a little less tired today, and am starting to get a bit of that antsy taper feeling.... I think that means I'm tapering just about right. Weather looks GREAT for Sunday!

Hope everyone had a great day today.

And the followup question...did anyone else have the race distance being long?  I was over by .3 miles and a couple people around me had approximately the same extra mileage.

Just curious...

I was about to ask the same question.  Both myself and noofus came up with about .3 extra using Garmin 405s.  Mine cut the corners on the data a lot as well.  I'm still pleased with my time of 3:52 considering I lost 6 weeks of training due to an injury and ramped up before taper in about 3 weeks.  Knees felt great today and no bonkage.  Took strategic walk breaks at rest stations and up hill on the way back in Kelly Drive to avoid calf cramping.  Overall pleased with the first marathon results considering I felt I was significantly under trained.

My total Garmin distance was 26.36. I noticed I was off of the mile markers pretty early on... I assumed that maybe it was because I was weaving in & out of people, and not necessarily running the absolute shortest "straight line" distance (cutting all corners as close as possible, etc.). I'm not sure if that would add 0.16 miles to the course or not, though....

I came up with 26.47 and I was cursing them every step over 26.2!!

Easily.  I've added that much on 10K's and a 10 miler.  Plus, there may have been areas where you weren't getting good satellite reception because of the buildings, so that could have thrown it off too.  For major races the courses are accurately measured a few times in order to be USATF certified.

I noticed my 405cx was off within the first couple of miles.  In the end I clocked in 26.43 miles.  It was discouraging for me to hear it click off some of those later miles (past 20) knowing I still had 0.2 miles to go before I saw the banner for that mile.

I was on pace for a 4:20 finish all the way up until mile 19 or so, but then I fell apart a little bit and ended up at 4:35.  Still I am pleased, since it was my first.  All in all I had a great time, and despite the fact that I feel like poo right now, I want to do it again.

I even looked at my Garmin, iPod, HRM, etc on my dresser this morning and thought I wanted to go for a run.  But then I took a step forward and realized 1) ouch that hurt and 2) stepping forward meant I bumped into my dresser.

I had 26.56 on my Garmin 305.  I learned last month while running the Steamtown Marathon (which measured at 26.45) that you have to measure your pace by the course mile markers; not your Garmin!  If you watch the Olympic Marathon race, you'll notice they paint a line on the road.  That line is the exact tangent which measures 26.2 miles.  Because we don't have the exact line to follow, and GPS watches have a margin for error, a race of any distance over 5k is rarely ever going to measure exactly.

Hey, I'd just like to say: What an Amazing Experience.  Philly was awesome - the city, people, food, history, all of it was just plain amazing.  The course had a few more turn-arounds and out & backs than I cared for, but the overall experience was unbelievable.  I hope everyone had a good time.  I paced my buddy to a huge PR for a 3:38.  His prior PR was a 3:51.  I gotta say, too, this course is not as fat and fast as advertised.  Plenty of rollers and fals flats, but running a bulk of the last part of the race along the Schuylkill River made up for it.  Awesome Marathon all-around.
