I know the 305 is a good one. I am looking for a watch I can wear all day, that also has a GPS with it. The 305 is just to big for a everyday watch.

I was looking at the Timex Bodylink ones. Anyone every use one? It look like there is a separate pod for the distance, not a all in one unit like the 305.

Not cheap and doesn't have the functions as the 305, but it has GPS and is smaller:

cool, now you got me looking at the 405cx. I actually like that one better. Looks like you can put it in power save mode too, extends battery life if you are not using all the functions.

I love the Garmin line, and that 110 is sweet and should be a perfect daily driver.  The 305 does so many things though...........I'm looking at getting one in the next week or so!

I have a Timex Bodylink that I no longer use (fyi...it does not get a good signal in urban areas/where there are lots of buildings overshadowing you).  It is very regular-watch sized as the gps equipment is in the pod that can be worn on your ankle or arm.  The watch also does not need to be recharged like the Garmins.  Also does heart rate.  If you are interested, let me know...

I think the 110 is probably what you're looking for.  The 405 is in my mind a bit large to wear for every day all day use.

That said, the 110 does take some feature cuts compared to all the other Garmin watches (no bike support for example) - so be aware of that if you plan to use it for a tri watch.  I wrote up a semi-detailed summary of those FR110 potholes here.

Why can't you continue to wear the Garmin on your wrist when you ride, swim etc.?  Isn't the GPS working the same regardless of what mode you are traveling?

The Forerunner 110 doesn't support any other ANT+ accessories aside from the HR strap.  Meaning, it won't support the cadence/speed sensor, so you won't get cadence - nor will you get speed indoors on a trainer.

It's unclear at the moment if the FR110 will support switching to MPH mode (instead of minutes/mile).  If it does, than this is probably an acceptable middle ground for some cyclists/triathletes.  Given all of the marketing is heavily focused on the runner (and all available images only show pace, not MPH), it remains to be seen what's made available.  Hopefully it will allow MPH as well...

As for swimming, assuming you're talking in your swim cap - as the current lot of GPS watches don't support accurate distances when on your wrist due to the pull section of the stroke being underwater causing signal loss and inaccurate acquisition of the signal during just the recovery phase.   I have a pretty detailed explanation of this in my 310XT review (including pretty pictures and diagrams).

Have a good weekend!

I would take a look at the Suunto T3c or T6c triathlon pack. Both watches look good and can be worn all the time. The pack includes foot pod, cadence, and cycling pod, as well s HR strap. If you really need GPS you can buy the GPS pod to go with them as well.

Thats what I didn't like about the bodylink was the extra stuff you had to have to make it work. I am looking for a daily wear watch, that can also do GPS stuff.

I am looking at the Sunnatos, but I really like the 405cx so far. I will make my mind up here in a bit.

I read all the reviews, its a love hate with the 405 it seems.

I say get the 305 for training and another watch to wear everyday. I don't see that having 2 watches will take up that much space in your place. I just don't see you getting everything you want in one small watch. Even the small ones have all the extra stuff you have to buy/wear/store/bring with you to make them give you all the functionality that you want. Just get the Garmin 305 w HR strap and maybe a bike cadence sensor and a cheaper athletic watch to wear everyday.

Just my .02.

I have a 405 and love it. I do not have any complaints, granted it was my first GPS watch but I love it.

Just as a quick follow-up, I was able to confirm that the FR110 will allow you to change the pace display to show MPH or KPH, as well as Minutes/Mile (or M/KM).

It still won't support the cadence/speed sensor (for either cadence reporting or indoor speed), but this will allow folks to easily cross-train with it outdoors at a good entry level.

This morning I finally broke down and oredered the Garmin 310 xt. I am anxious to see how well I do with it. I am not the most tech savy individual out there. Either way after looking at a couple different models I found this to be the most comprehensive package and will post my $.02 after giving it a try. I found alot of information on here about other people testing them and so forth but it seamed to me that they were already pretty proficient with similar products.

Ok, so I got the 310xt in the mail yesterday. I pulled it all out of the box and charged it up this morning. It was pretty easy to follow the directions and i had it up and running. I had it programmed and synced up with the HRM in about 10 mins. I took off on a ride and was unsure if I did it all correctly, however as soon as I returned home I downloaded the easy to follow directions and it syced right up with both the Garmin web site and with BT's web site. It is really pretty cool and I now just need to figure out how to use it to get better. I will post more as I learn more about it.

The important thing is the data windows.  You can have up to 4 windows, showing up to 4 data fields each: Speed, average speed, average hr,.....

That's the first thing to figure out, and get setup how you like.

I also really like "auto-lap".  It's nice having the watch beep or vibrate every mile, and tell you have fast you were.  It's also helpful (at least for me) when the data is broken up by mile.

I got the 310XT also, and really nice watch. I used to have a 305, but when the chance to upgrade came, did it. 310XT is also lower profile, and fits better. Really easy to use.

Also did an open water swim (OWS) last weekend, and had a lot less resistance in the water than I anticipated. So overall, a really nice watch/GPS to have.

The RS300xG1 is also an option, watch will be smaller than most of the rest and you need the G1 GPS for speed/distance.

THIS GUY, knows his GPS watches. Absolutely brilliant blog on all things GPS. The time he put into this with the analysis, pictures, opinions, testing is just great. We salute you DC Rainmaker.

I just wish someone would come out with something that would work with my cell phone.  Don't know why someone has not come up with a bluetooth device that will do HR and a nice app for BB, iphone, etc.

Anyway I have the 305 & a normal watch.. Have not seen any great all in one options yet & hate carrying extra chargers on business trips.  I can usually make it though a 1 week trip with a single charge on the 305.

They have.

Runkeeper (today w/o HR): http://www.runkeeper.com/

ANT+ for iPhone: http://www.digifit.me/

ANT+ for iPhone: http://pedalbrain.com/

And then look to see a number of non-iPhone vendors supporting ANT+ this fall using the new TI WiLink chips, which support both ANT+ & BTLE (which is what Polar's going towards).
