Subject: Pain at top of calf, in bend of knee

About a week ago I was walking in my backyard and for no reason, I sharp pain hit me on back of my leg right in the bend of my knee.  I limped to the couch.  The pain eased up up a week later and it is still sore despite no running or biking.  If I put pressure on the backside of my knee, it hurts a little....I bagged my long bike ride last weekend...wondering if I should bag it again?

I had biked about 40 miles a few days before this incident and ran a couple of miles the day before.

Any ideas?

Irritation of the popliteal tendon?

When you mention that "If I put pressure on the backside of my knee, it hurts a little....", does that mean pressure from your hand?  If so, you might also feel a lump, knot or trigger point.  You might also want to see if it is the insertion of your hamstring or infact a bakers cist or even the popliteal tendon like other people have mentioned.

A good way to figure it out would be to isolate where your pain is coming from during dynamic movements.  If your movements produce weekness or soreness, I would "bag your ride".

Could be any one of a number of things.  Gastroc strain,. Hamstring strain, popliteal strain, meniscal injury.  If it doens' quiet down go see your doc

Best advice in the thread IMO. Listen to the ortho doc.

When you go to a doc go see a sports/ortho not just your GP.
