Comments:

Pool swim friday night before the bike/run on saturday. Well I am very happy with this time. I had hoped to go under 9:00 and I definitely crushed that. However I did go out way too fast. I noticed at the 200 I was out in 2:06 and at the 500 I was at 5:38 (a new PR since I quit swimming). Still however, this is 42 seconds faster than last year and set me up quite well for tomorrow's bike/run.
What would you do differently?:

Go out a little slower

Comments:

Well I definitely went out pretty hard on the bike. I turned my bike computer on and I must have knocked the sensor out of place because it did not register the whole race. Maybe that was a good thing. I went out really hard and then I figured I was probably pushing too hard, so I backed off a tiny bit. I started the bike in 3rd and ended up around 12th after the bike so that was cool. My derailleur was acting up big time however and it was constantly jumping gears. I spent way too much time trying to feather into a single gear and this probably took away from my biking overall. Overall though, I did a solid job on the bike and I was happy with it.
What would you do differently?:

Fix the derailleur
Transition 2

Comments:

Well I tried to take my feet out of my shoes on the bike and ended up with some issues on that and only got 1 foot out. My gloves also got stuck as I was trying to pry them off. A little trouble fitting my seat under the rack to rack my bike.
What would you do differently?:

Get both feet out.

Comments:

Well I started off and just ran. I couldn't really tell how fast I was going so I just kept pushing. The first half of the course is pretty much all uphill so my calves were getting very tight but I pushed through it. Finally started to loosen up around the halfway point and from there I just kept on pushing it. Really tried to take advantage of the downhill on the way back and sprinted to the end.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. This was wayyyyy better than I had even hoped for.

Event comments:

Overall I was ecstatic with my time. I wanted to go under 1:10 and I crushed that by over a minute. My swim and run were both better than I had even hoped for. My bike was a little frustrating because of all the gear changes but still solid. This is definitely my best race I've ever done. Now if I could just drop out of the Clydesdale division I might be able to drop even more time. I did however managed to drop over 9 minutes from last years time.
