Swim
  • 12m 11s
  • 528 yards
  • 02m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

this will go down as my most humbling swim experience ever. my biggest mistake was not doing Open Water Swims during training. i feel like i have a good base in the pool but you can throw that out the window if you are trying to race in 2ft swells....i knew the beginning would be tough with all of the other swimmers around me but i never got into a groove..it seemed like every time i came out for a breath..there was a wave greeting me...i would freestyle for a little while then i would backstroke to get my nerves calmed..i have the Lonestar Olympic coming up in 2 weeks so i am a little nervous about the swim...i have 2 weeks to mentally prepare :)
What would you do differently?:

Open Water Swims during training...a lot of them!

NOTE TO SELF: GET YOUR A$$ OUT TO 288 LAKE AND PRACTICE!!!
Transition 1
  • 03m 14s
Comments:

it was about a 100 yd jog to the transition area from the swim exit...felt like it was the best T1 i have had yet...had my garmin and my sunglasses in my helmet on my aerobars...my shoes were already clipped in so that was time saved.....
What would you do differently?:

nothing much...
Bike
  • 40m 25s
  • 12.5 miles
  • 18.56 mile/hr
Comments:

this was the first bike segment during a race that i felt like i was really racing...the bridge climbs felt good and was able to push it on the rest of the course...avg. 19.2 mph..that is my fastest speed in a race yet...was very happy with the ride
What would you do differently?:

i wish i would have known that it was a 12.5 mile course and not 15...i would have pushed a little harder starting around mile 9...i feel i could have pushed a little more...oh well..was a great ride
Transition 2
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

good transition..hung the bike, off with the helmet, on with shoes and socks and blasted away..
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 21m 39s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

this was my fastest 5K time ever! this run felt really good....right out of transition i had a guy behind me who was pacing with me that kept me pushing...my HR never got out of control and my breathing was excellent...about 1.5 miles he passed me and got about 10 yds ahead of me..at mile 2.5 i went ahead and grabbed for another gear and it was there so i got back in front of him an i finished at my Max Hr....everything was perfect on this run...
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

stretch, pizza & beer :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

bike and run was perfect...not practicing OWS's limited my ability on the swim...

Event comments:

I will do this race again next year!
