Age Group Rank = 20/30
Pre-race routine:

Up early, a little oatmeal, a banana, some powerbar endurance about 5 servings (good stuff) and a shot of FRS. I don't know if that helped, but I sure felt some energy coming from some place.
Event warmup:

a short warmup and quick stretch before hand. HR of about 105-110 at the line.

Comments:

What a great run for me! I had a great time, and felt strong the whole time. I don't think I could have gone much faster, but I could have gone longer I guess. I am kind of built that way! I am ready for a half marathon any time now. I am ready for my olympic triathlon more importantly, that is what this race was all about.
What would you do differently?:

I probably should have skipped the 2000 calorie mexican food meal the night before, and the subsequent early morning gi problems that that brought. Everything else was freaking great!
Post race
Warm down:

short jog and stretch.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

La comida mexicana!

Event comments:

Great race that everyone in KC should try to do. Good course, good cause, just all around good times.

Performance: Good
I pushed the hills pretty hard and got the heart rate up to 186 at one point but tried to keep it around 160, and ended up averaging 161 so pretty good control. Mile 1: 9:38 159 Mile 2 9:24 151 Mile 3 9:08 163 Mile 4 9:01 166 Mile 5 9:25 167 Mile 6 8:23 165 Mile .2 1:45 159
Course: It seemed like it trended downhill even though this is impossible because the start and the finish were at the same spot. I guess there was about one big half mile down hill, and a few little quarter mile very gentle uphills. Overall a great first 10K route for a fat guy.

Thanks!  Nice run!

I agree, fantastic race.  The weather was absolutely perfect.  I loved the part where the 5k/10k merged back together for the final home stretch, I was blowing through people.

Race pics should be available on Thursday, I can't wait, I like to make funny faces for the photographers.

Yeah, that part was particularly exciting!  When I came in, I was finishing with some really slow 5K people (about 43 min. time frame) and it made me feel like superman!  It was my longest race ever, and considering what I have left to do weight wise, like another 50# to lose, it made me feel pretty good about myself.  Take care, good luck this season, and perhaps we will meet up at an event somewhere down the road.
Dave.
