Age Group Rank = 8/9
Pre-race routine:

2 hour drive to race. Ate Cliff bar and banana some coffee. All done 2 hours prior to start. Drank some FRS juice
Event warmup:

10 min swim, 5 minute jog
Swim
  • 15m 59s
  • 750 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

Kept drifting right and my sighting was rusty.
What would you do differently?:

Use goggle defogger and practice more OWS
Transition 1
  • 02m 24s
Comments:

Took me too long to get suit off feet. Mounting bike was poor and didn't get clipped in before course started uphill. Only about 10 yards from mount line to hill!
What would you do differently?:

Needed some more spray on inside legs of suit.
Bike
  • 45m 18s
  • 14.5 miles
  • 19.20 mile/hr
Comments:

Took one left turn too tight and tried to pass someone one the right at the same time. Good idea except a car pulled past the stop line and nearly clipped me. The rest of the ride was good.
What would you do differently?:

Be a little more cautious on turns.
Transition 2
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

Pretty quick for me. Run exit was 100 yds downhill and then the uphill started
Run
  • 28m 32s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 12s  min/mile
Comments:

Didn't have much zip in legs today. Wimped out and walked for 30 seconds up a hill at mile 1.8
What would you do differently?:

Not do a brick practice 2 days before race.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fatique and emotion were not the best for race

Event comments:

1. The swim is a little long so don't panic if your times are slower than you'd expect for the distance.
2. The first 5 miles of the bike feel like they are all uphill. At least that's what I wrote in both my race reports
3. The first mile of the run is, pretty much, a long gradual uphill. It hurts! BUT, since it's an out-and-back, the last mile is pretty much down hill. Yay!
4. Nice lake but venue was just OK for a 2 hour drive

Enjoyed your race report. Sorry we did not meet. I also had trouble sighting. Swim exit was poorly marked like you said.

Nice first race of the year! They get better and at least your water temp was above 70 F this year!

great job on your sprint!  Early season races can be hard swim conditions (then again...it you swam like me anything would be hard!)
