Finish Strong
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 22m 28s
Overall Rank = 94/253
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 10/16
Pre-race routine:

Ate some Cheerios and a diet pepsi. Got to the race site at about 6:30 snfd setup transition.
Event warmup:

Ran about a mile at a slow 12 minute pace.
Swim
  • 16m 30s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was worried about the swim as I was seeded 48th. Fortunately the water was warm and I relaxed quickly. I keep a good line and tried to be steady.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more and lose weight.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I planned on using the race as a glorified training day. Thus a walked up the steep hill out of transition instead of running. This alone probable cost me at least 6 places overall. I found cuts on the bottoms of both feet after the race and that had to have happened there. Otherwise T1 was fine.
What would you do differently?:

Run
Bike
  • 33m 52s
  • 10.5 miles
  • 18.60 mile/hr
Comments:

Took a couple of miles to find my rhythm. Otherwise the bike was uneventful. Oh, I caught the woman who started behind me on the swim. I told her she must be an awesome swimmer! I knew her name from the participant list and cheered her on.

What would you do differently?:

Treat it a little more like a race and less like training.
Transition 2
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

Only issue was with one of my Yankz laces. The catch at the bottom was backwards. D'oh!
What would you do differently?:

Fix laces.
Run
  • 27m 50s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Just enjoyed the run for the most part. Did not push it on the hills.
What would you do differently?:

Treat it a little more like a race and less like training. Maybe not stop to buy lottery tickets.

Great job Doug.  Did you really buy lotto tickets during the race and still place so high?  Well done!

Cheerios and a Diet Pepsi for breakfast? If you switched that to Diet Coke you would save several minutes :-) Seriously, sounds like you have a good experience. Nice job!

It was a fun day and you didn't tell me about the truck, that probably costs you a minute alone.

Sounds like a good day out there Doug. I am guessing that Avent Ferry had not improved any from our ride the week before. Laughing
