The 2010 US Open tri will be held in Rockwall this year. Swim in Ray Hubbard, bike and run are in/around Rockwall. Transition will be at The Harbor.

Pros and cons, IMO. I liked having a "downtown" race and the point-to-point w/ 2 transitions was fun to do (once a year). The biggest pro is that I think the bike course will be MUCH better on many fronts...better traffic safety, fewer potholes, and probably flatter.

On the whole, I'm excited about the change but obviously want to see how things will work out at The Harbor at Ray Hubbard.

Well this is exciting! Rockwall is a nice place to ride. Should be much more spectator friendly too. This race has now gone to the top of list to do this year since I am not doing any HIMs.

I might do this one then.. I wasn't crazy about the ride to downtown, road condition wise.

I need to have a couple of fall races to start training for

I'm not so sure about this. Some of the roads around Rockwall are bad and rolling hilly. Have you seen the course map?

I do like that it's 15' from my house!

It will be interesting with the venue change, I thought the point to point and downtown finish is what set it apart from all the other local area races. I'll just be happy if I get 2 dry transitions for that race

Haven't SEEN anything, but have been told that it will be predominately on new paved concrete and relatively flat...a small, short climb out of transition, but not much after that.

Wow! I had completely taken the US Open off my schedule with no plans to return- mainly because of the road conditions (and the fact that I was so cold I couldn't feel my feet for the first three miles of the run...but you can't fix the weather.) Hmmm... may re-consider.

100% agree - both tires ended up cut on last year's course and I had to replace them.  I had written off doing the race again, but will have to reconsider now that it is in Rockwall!

This race is always a well-done event. The bike course concerns were legit and those have hopefully been addressed. The weather is obviously outside of their control; last year was nasty but the two years prior were beautiful conditions. So if you're thinking about doing this race, I highly recommend it. And I have no interest or affiliation with it; just like the race and it's "big time" feel.

Since they're not shutting down a ton of major Dallas roads, the event better be cheaper.

Cant believe I missed this. That is cool for me as I am in Rowlett. There will be a monster climb out of T1 thats is for sure being on that side of the lake. At least I get to ride the route a few times before the race.

That sounds about in line with their early bird specials in the past. Don't know if the prices will go up as the race nears like they normally do for any race, but it could very well be in the $130 range again.

Prices aren't any more than any other big race. CapTex and Lonestar were both $100 for sprint, more for the Oly, and even more closer to the race. US Open is actually cheaper if you register early. Much less the pro race at US Open is quite a bit better at US Open.

Just registered for the OLY...while rates are low.  booked a room in the Hilton on site too (only way I'm going to get my wife to go with me).  They have special room rates if you use the code USTRI...$99.  Unfortunately, no specials on the Spa rates I will have to pay for my wife while I am racing!
