Swim
Comments: I was really really disappointed that they canceled the swim. The main reason I signed up for Lonestar was to get in an open water salt water swim in preparation for Florida in November. It was gusty out there and I guess the buoys were moving around and so they made an executive decision and the event was turned into a duathlon. What would you do differently?: Not bring my wetsuit if there isn't going to be a swim. Transition 1
Comments: Just had to wait around in the transition area until they got the sprint started and then they just sent everyone out the bike exit in a time trial start three seconds apart. It was actually pretty organized considering it wasn't a planned event. Bike
Comments: Bike course was great. Had a tail wing heading out and was hitting 26+mph most of the way. Unfortunately that means we had a nice head wind on the way back which slowed the pace dramatically. However overall I was real happy with the bike leg and even happier that I wasn't wiped out when I got off to start the run. What would you do differently?: Nothing really had a great ride. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty good transition maybe could work on a moving dismount to save some time. Run
Comments: Run went great! Unfortunately there wasn't a swim for this race but if I compare it to my last Oly run split I PR'd the run by 14 minutes. It's amazing what happens when I actually put in the run training miles hah. I'm sure it also has a lot to do with the increased bike fitness so I'm feelin better off the bike. It did get a little hot towards the end of the run and I came out wayyy to fast on the first mile. But overall I'm real excited with my performance. Splits: mile 1 (7:19) mile 2 (7:44) mile 3 (7:58) mile 4 (7:44) mile 5-6 (16:33) (ouch slow) What would you do differently?: Try not to let the adrenaline get the best of me off the bike and go out at a slower pace. Also I needed to drink more on the bike because I started to get a bit light headed towards the end and that slowed my pace down on mile five and six. Overall real happy though. Post race
Warm down: Drank a few cups of Gatorade and downed some ice. Also headed over to the pizza tent to get some Papa John's and then a beer after that. Had to stay i the shade for a bit to try and cool down. What limited your ability to perform faster: There wasn't a swim, and I should have drank a little bit more on the bike to stay hydrated for the run. Event comments: Had a lot of fun at this race and I'm glad I made the trip even though there wasn't a swim. Overall I'm happy with where I'm at so far for the season and am looking forward to the gains that are going to be made over the many months to follow. Last updated: 2010-01-30 12:00 AM

Woke up had a cliff bar and banana and then drove from Texas City over the bridge to Galveston. Took a while to find parking and then just headed over to transition.
Ran around for a couple minutes and then waited for all the stuff to get started and announcements to be made.
