Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 6am. Ate bagel and pb. Drink some OJ. Headed to transition.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 00m
  • 1640 yards
  • / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim canceled due to "buoys"
Transition 1
  • 00m
Bike
  • 1h 15m 41s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.70 mile/hr
Comments:

Practice mount. Stumbled around on this one.
What would you do differently?:

Avoid getting a BS drafting penalty. Not worth the energy to protest, but if the person you are passing doesn't submit and actually speeds up its hard to get over and back in single file line.
Transition 2
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

Got a little faster. Yankz help !
What would you do differently?:

Use bathroom right before race began. I had to use it as soon as I started pedaling, but was able to hold it for entire bike. Couldn't once I started running and had to stop.
Run
  • 59m 3s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Held nice pace until 4.5 miles in and then had to stop and walk until aid station with gel and water. Should have taken something earlier to avoid having to slow down.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster and maintain pace. Need to focus on running for rest of season.
Post race
Warm down:

Got some food and a coke. sat in the shade and talked with few friends from the race. Spent the afternoon at the Aquarium with family.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The convergance of lack of time to train and busy season.

Event comments:

Check in on Friday was a nightmare. Took over 45 minutes. Once I got inside I saw why. Two volunteers for each race. Then had to go around to three different tables. Just think it should have gone alot faster.

Heard conflicting stories on why the swim was canceled. (buoys vs. lifeguard calling it unsafe) We were told it was the buoys, but other claim it was lifeguard. I think the lifeguard calling it is more acceptable. Who knows ?

This is my fourth race and I would have thought I would get some notice if they were going to flag me for drafting. Oh well, not going to lose sleep over it.
