Alright lady's and gents from the Berks county area! It's soon about that time where it will be warm enough to do some swims in the Blue Marsh Lake. Was wondering if anyone was up to it? I'll be doing the Mt Gretna Tri May 22 and definitely want to get in before that!

I'm still up for safety boating if I am not doing something else.  I'm not racing till August, so I have no need to jump in the cold lake just yet.  But as long as I remember to bring the lock for the boat, I can join in a bike or trail run.  I'm pretty slow out there, but it is only about 10-15 minutes from the house for me.

My Tuesday and Thursday evenings I try to reserve for biking, but I can flex that.  Weekends requiring a little more planning, but are doable.  In fact, this Sunday is open, as long as the skies don't open up and drop a bunch of rain on us.  I'll follow the weather and this thread.

I'm going to guess "cold".  I haven't taken my boat out yet this season, but usually it doesn't get warm until a few weeks of high temperatures.  Between the cooler weather and the recent rain, I'm going to guess it will be a mite chilly.  Definitely wetsuit weather!

What's your personal tolerance for cold swimming?  With a name like "swimmer04", I'm guessing it's higher than mine!

haha yeah it doesnt bother me to much, I was hoping to get out a couple times in May. I have a sleeveless wetsuit that ill be using for the first time this year so I'd like to get used to wearing it. But Im hoping it warms up a little so I and others can get out.

Right now I have no endurance, so I'm still going to stick to the pool.  Sinus infection kept me out for a while and now (and past few weeks) paperwork and packing for moving to our dream home!!!! has kept me out of the pool.  Hopefully by June I'll be able to go for a bit to join in on the fun.  And hopefully this thread will still be active!!!

I'd love to get as much ows time as possible this year so I'll join in as long as I can make it work schedule wise.

I might be interested if you get something organized. Please post if you're planning on heading out there for a swim! It's a bit of a drive for me, but any chance to practice OWS can be helpful....

well I will try to work with everyone on getting something setup. Weekday or weekends?? If a weekend, then we can plan maybe a ride for afterwards so it makes for a better trip. 10 day for Blue marsh weather looks promising. I doubt this weekend will be warm enough. If the people close by want to get together, next week some evening during the week looks promising. Another option for me would be the Saturday May 15th (week before Gretna). We can keep OWS going throughout the season if everyone is up to it! I get tired of swimming and training by myself!

I will be out of state the weekend before Gretna (diving with gators in south carolina).  But I could bring out the boat on Wednesday May12, or maybe do Sunday May 9 (it is mother's day, but that's not an issue for the gearboy household).

I would be good for both those days! I was going to say the 9th but wasn't sure how others would feel about it being mother's day.

If anyone is open for Sunday May 9th and wants to do an OWS (wetsuit highly recommended) and possibly a ride post up and let me know and we can figure out a date. Wouldnt mind meeting some people in the area!

I was paddling out at the lake today for a short while.  Water is definitely chilly but managable with a wetsuit, I think.  We can start to think about a time for next Sunday that works (assuming the weather holds)

I'm going to be in South Carolina this weekend.  I find out this evening whether I am leaving Thursday after work or Friday.  If I am around Thursday evening and people want to have a safety boat, I would expect to be there around 6:30, after work.

I really want to get out for one of these!  I'm going to keep following along.  I'm hoping to make it by the end of July.  I'm really slow at swimming...I do 500 yards in the pool in about 12:30. I've only done one triathlon (Marshman) and did the swim in just under 12 minutes (I think).  I have my first of the season on Saturday at Mt. Gretna and am stressing the swim.  I know I can do the 500 yards, but my main goal is to not have the slowest swim...bike and run, I'm fine, just stress the swim...My main goal for the year with swimming is getting up to 1 mile (doing the Steelman Oly in August) and also improving my form.  Part of that goal will be getting out to join you all in late July (or earlier if my speed/endurance pick up!!).

I am available in the afternoons on Saturday and Sunday.  I will be taking my motorcycle safety class in the mornings, so I won't be available till around 1:30 or so, assuming I think ahead and pack my things for the water before the class.  The class is in Leesport, so not too far from the lake.
