So, option one is the SRAM Force at $259, with $35 for the BB.  172.5MM Crank Arm length and 50/34 T Chainring combo

Option 2 is the Shimano Ultegra 6750 at $350 with an extra $35 for BB.

Cost-wise I'm heavily leading the SRAM Force way....any opinions out there?

PerformanceBike.com has the Ultegra for $270 and the BB for $25 plus free shipping on orders over $150 and another 10% off on some items (would have to see if it works for the crank).

It's never easy!

personally I'd say Force is nicer than Ultegra.

I got the ultegra from performance a couple of weeks ago, I went with the ultegra since my BB is fairly new and compatible so I wouldn't need to buy another one. Plus I had a 10% coupon.   so that was my main reason.  both are good quality and close enough to most likley not notice the difference.

Yeah, I quoted the Ultegra price from there to my LBS and they still gave me the price they gave me.  However, they did match the SRAM price, which was nice.

If you are concerned with weight I would go with the SRAM, I got Ultegra myself because I believe the Shimano is more durable. Im still test driving mine to make sure I have the right cassette.

Why not Shimano's R700?  Some SWEET close-out deals available now on this Ultegra level compact.  I've been running it for a couple years with zero issues.  Not the lightest, but bullet-proof.

Can you just get a new outer chain ring for your current crank?  I'm considering running 50-39 on my road bike...best of both worlds.

Hmmm, maybe, but the issue usually isn't with the big ring, it having a smaller small ring for climbing.  With the 130mm BCD I don't think you can't get smaller than a 38. This site has 50T big rings for 130mm BCD.

The Ultegra Crank is basically a bit heavier DA crank.
The high end crank has long been Shimano's shining point in it's groups.

The choice is your's...

what group are you using the rest of the way?

Ultegra the rest of the way...went with the SRAM Force, and it gets installed on Saturday, so I can pick up Monday after my HM.

I have a standard size, so I would not need to buy one.  As far as training harder....if it's good enough for a wimp like Lance Armstrong to use a compact, I guess I can be a poser too.
