djastroman - 2013-01-28 11:17 AM Rocky is this week for me.  It's weird, no nervousness or anything this time around. I'm excited as it will be a really fun weekend camping with the wife, but for some reason I kind of just want it to be over so I can start thinking about my bike again.  I guess I can't focus on just one sport for too long or I get burned out.

Me too!

I'm actually REALLY nervous and feel like I don't know where to start...drop bags? How much extra stuff do I need? How much do I want to eat off the course...I feel like I know NOTHING.

Any advice veterans? Maybe I should start another thread.

My first 50miler. Did a brutal marathon in Dec, 2 in the last 2 weeks. No real 'mid distance' runs. Heh. Totally unprepared, but I'm planning on using my 29hrs to finish!

I am at Rocky this weekend too! I've gone the 100 mile distance twice at Umstead but DNF'd Javelina at 82 miles in November so I'm looking for revenge on the distance. Looks like the weather is going to cooperate. Just have a mindset that crossing the finish line is your ONLY option. If you can be patient in the early miles you'll be able to just keep moving. Good luck.

Well it was just not meant to be at Rocky for me.  4 laps, 80 miles, and my body and mind gave out on me.  Looking back I wonder if I could have hobbled for another 9 hours to finish in the time limit.  I don't really know the answer to that, but I do have a much greater respect for the distance and more knowledge of what it will take to finish if I ever want to attempt it again.  Right now I'm not sure.  Tomorrow I bet i'll be ready to sign up for next year

50km tomorrow.  Although it might be 48k.  Low hype run with lots of draw prizes and pizza.  Not feeling super good, just going to have a good time.

Hate the feeling a day or two before an ultra....so many emotions cant even describe them then when the weather forcast is drastically different then the normal it completely messes with your head.  Gonna listen to  I will Survive All Day!

Doing my first ultra this Saturday....Way Too Cool 50k up in Northern California. Have put in some good training on the trails....PR'd in a road marathon a month ago, and hit a new record peak week for mileage this past week (62 miles). Of course this morning I woke up to some major lower back pain out of nowhere, so Ill be taking it really easy the next few days.

Anyways, Im ready to go!

Prairie Spirit 50 yesterday. You might have seen that not-so-little snowstorm that Kansas City got... It's not so fun doing an ultra in a snowstorm. Just sayin'. But, I got my buckle and I'm never coming back. Now, I wait in my hotel because I can't get out of the parking lot to get to the airport.

Congrats!!

Thanks.

And everyone else, THIS is what happens when you sign up for an "easy 50" reported to be beginner friendly. I *thought* it wouldn't be a big deal to add on another 50 after Rocky Raccoon, flat, unremarkable out-and-back.

Now that is epic!  I would have been in hell with all that snow.  I froze in the ~40 degree weather we had in the hil country this weekend!

It was AWFUL! Really, it was! For the last 3 miles I had TWO sets of hand warmers in my gloves, against my skin (even though they say not to put it against your skin) and I was STILL cold!

Had Rocky been like that, there's no way I would have signed up for another 50!

It's finally HERE! Challenging weather just makes for a more "epic" race.

Good luck to anyone taking part in an Ultra this weekend, some very unseasonal weather has been messing with races for the last few weeks, hopefully this weekend we'll see a turn in the weather fortunes.

have fun!

Just a "measly 50k" Haley?? That sounds like the beginning of a "you might be an ultra runner if..." kind of joke.

Yeah, heh. You're right. I've got my schedule laid out for the year, all train up runs leading to Cajun Coyote 100 in Dec. interested?

I'm starting to get more interested! Wifey said she may want to do that one too.
I'm starting to get excited about Rocky again. But first I need to get this marathon's butt!

I will do my best to show up and get where I need to be to assist DJ as a pacer starting around that mile point. My first time being a pacer, too. Should be interesting.

Go get 'em, Donk-a-saurus! EEEEAAAAWWWW!!!
