Swim
Comments: Swim went ok considering a majority of the swim was head into the west wind. My time was slower than I was hoping for but that was to be expected with the conditions. Starting to feel my side as a dull ache. What would you do differently?: Need to work on swiming straight. My drifting to the right is getting annoying Transition 1
Comments: Took my time here, it was going to be a long day. Bike
Comments: I planned on riding in zone 2 out to the turn around and then zone 3 on the way back. I was in zone 4 coming out of tranisiton and it took a while just to get down to zone 3. About 10 miles into the bike my side starting to actually hurt but it was manageable. About the time I got to the turn around and headed back my side was making it difficult to actually ride in the aero position, so I ended up riding up most of the way back. This was dissappointing. What would you do differently?: Hopefully not have a pulled muscle or stitch or whatever it is in my side. Transition 2
Comments: This went well. Actually having to race my age group instead of clydesdale gave me a great spot in transistion. What would you do differently?: I could have been faster but why for the first one. Long run ahead Run
Comments: I was really concerned about my side for the run since it made it really difficult at Gateway, but it was more of a dull ache here and I was able to run ok. I planned to walked the water stations and run between them. I was successfull with this till about mile 8.5 then it got a little bit harder to not want to walk to between stations. Somehow my wife found the spot on the course where she could see me a lot and nothing like having your wife support you by yelling "You worked to hard for this so no walking allowed!" Love her. I like the 4 loop course because I could focus on how many laps I had left and not mileage What would you do differently?: I really feel like my training plan could have used some longer bricks and probably a couple more. Post race
Warm down: Some stretching and haning out with the family and waiting for David and Buddy to finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: This was my first half, so the goal was to finish. I set a 2nd goal of trying to finish under 6. I think now I have a better understanding of what to expect and hopefully the next one I can go sub 6 Last updated: 2009-12-09 12:00 AM

Drove down to the Bay House on Friday and went to the Rainforest Cafe for my oldest birthday dinner. Saturday hung around the house and tried to relax and went to get my packet.
I got a stitch in my side two weeks ago on the run portion of Gateway to the Bay and had been feeling it for the past two weeks. So I am not sure if it was a stitch or some small pull, but I was hoping it wouldn't have any effect on the race.
No much other than walking over the start.I was in the first age group wave so it was cool to stand on the pier and watch the pro men and women start.
