Tri the Parks Triathlon Race Series
60F / 16C
Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 30m
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = F40-44
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Usual banana and a power bar, drive to the venue
Event warmup:

not much, too cold to get in water before without wetsuit
Swim
  • 15m
  • 656 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

did not do well, couldn't get into a rhythm. finished near the back, which is unusal for me.
What would you do differently?:

more swim practice. i hadn't done enough swimming yet. after watching all the people in wetsuits fly away from me in the water, i ordered a wetsuit.
Transition 1
  • 03m
Comments:

went fine, a little fumbling getting my stuff out from under the bags due to the rain
Bike
  • 40m
  • 11.2 miles
  • 16.80 mile/hr
Comments:

legs felt tired throughout, couldn't churn as fast as I'd like. cornering was slowed by the rain. but after seeing my average speed here, not as bad as I felt it was during the race.
What would you do differently?:

it's early season, i'll get better with more saddle time
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

fast, but forgot to take off bike gloves.
Run
  • 31m
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m  min/mile
Comments:

legs really tired here. had to walk one hill. i felt slow, was slow. this is 2 minutes slower than I'm capable of doing. rain stopped a little ways into the run.
What would you do differently?:

again, it's early. expect to get better with a little more training time.
Post race
Warm down:

ate a bagel, drank a water and packed up before the rain started in again.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the rain and the lack of training at this point in the season. i think it was a good start for me though. last season's first race was indian springs at 1:42, even compensating for the shorter bike here, i'm still about 5 minutes faster than at this point last year.

Event comments:

nice course, park. not too long a drive, about 1:15 for me

Good job out there...good to get everything worked out the first race and get ready for the meat of the season.  If you are not already doing them, suggest some bricks to help on the tranisitions.  They helped me greatly.  Good luck with all your racing in 2010!
