Will also have a weigh in two days and hopefulyl shave a couple of decimals of a pound off. All in all really happy especially since last week i did no exercise and tried to eat a lot to get over the flu! My goal was 208 but i will be happy with 210 or 211 at the end of the month considering i was bed ridden with flu and injured. Put in some solid training in over the next few days for the monday EOM weigh in. |

Member 57 KC | Subject: RE: TEAM SKINNY - May Flowers (May2010) Ugggh! I'm finally in the state of mind to write about this. I trained HARD for this first tri of the season. I got up at 4:00, weight myself (196 lbs) not bad considering... I went to the race, got marked, picked up my chip and still had plenty of time to warm up. I ran a couple of miles, rode 6 miles (1/2 the race route) then swam 500 meters or so for warm up. I double checked the entry for the water (dry start), I needed 8 steps before diving or my first catch would be mud and sand. I watched the waves before me take off! I was SUPER excited!!! I was totally stoked. I knew that my training times were at least as fast as the top three in my AG from last year, and my swim was 12:30 for 750 meters which would have put me out of the water in the top three for sure in my AG, even without a wetsuit. IN a wetsuit, I am certain I'd be faster. So yeah, I was way excited!!! Our turn comes up. I took a position up front of the pack, right at the water's edge. One foot in and one on dry land. The gun goes off, and I take off. On the sixth step, my foot got caught on something, and my forward momentum carried me sideways...( POP! ) My old knee injury took me out of the race. Six freaking steps into the SWIM of my first race of the season and my racing season is OVER! I don't have to tell you how humiliating and frustrating it was to walk to the transition area with spectators saying things like "Good job" and "good swim!" as they thought that I had completed the swim and was hobbling to T1. It took me a half hour to start putting my stuff away and start the long hobble to my car. I'm guessing from the pain and nature of the injury that it's another meniscus injury. It's seriously time to get my ACL rebuilt on that knee. I've had the injury since Somalia in 93, and it's just time to bite the bullet and get it fixed right. This will be my fourth surgery on that knee. Anyway, I can't run until I get this damned knee FIXED, but I CAN bicycle. I've stripped down my Tequilo (it didn't fit and was going away after this race anyway), and ordered a new Cervelo S1 frameset. Right now, I'm riding my old Lemond Alpe Dhuez. It gets the job done, and keeps my fitness up! Anyway, my tri season is over. I'll use this year to get fit and trained up for next year. I've got a Century per month starting in June. So, I'll weigh in next week, and try to focus on something positive. Sorry to vent guys and gals. This was a TOUGH one for me to swallow and I needed to chat a bit. Thanks, Tim timbarnby - 2010-05-02 12:26 AM I'm starting the month at 202. My goal for this month is 198. I'd try for more but I have a race on the 23rd and need to focus on perforrmance this month and let weight loss be the side effect. |

Chatham Ontario | Subject: RE: TEAM SKINNY - May Flowers (May2010) Will def try the fasting idea.. I have been considering it for other reasons... I was considering a 12 hour fast to reset my sleep clock. Something I read about before... Might try a full 24 hour. The other thing I was reading was about leptin depletion from having a lower carb/calorie diet. Being I was boarderline diabetic I stayed away from carbs and was on a lower carb diet. ie 150-180g of carbs for a 248lb person. not an atkins 15-30g stupid low carb diet. I read that I may need to eat at least 1g per pound if not a bit more to reset my glycogen storage and leptin levels... so I did that last night still pulling from fruit, veggies and peanut butter for the carb increase to 245g of carbs last night.. man I felt full and still with only 2150 calories. Will see what that does and then maybe fast friday or next week sometime depending on what I see. I can't work out much this week. Sorry to hear about your Knee dude.. that sucks. I sort of know the feeling I had a 10lb lead weight dropped on my toe yesterday, split it wide open and broke my toe next to my big toe... I am just starting my weightloss, tri jorney and this sucks. I am hoping I am only out for a few weeks. As long as this cut is in good shape and remains nice and sealed with durabond glue, I am going to have a go at swimming tonight and try and keep up some portion, my running won't be happening any time soon and I just bought my first pair of fitted shoes and haven't run in them yet... Get better, I have had several ACL issues in the past and knock on wood it has been good for 8 years now. One of the reasons I took up cycling a few years ago, it wasn't hard on my knees. Veteran 663 Central Point | Subject: RE: TEAM SKINNY - May Flowers (May2010) Tim, Sorry to hear about the injury. I hope you have a full recovery. @ Neil & techdiver: Thanks, slow and steady has become my theme. When I started I was hoping for 10 plus pounds a month but I don't have the time to train for that. It took me 30 years to get to the weight I started this process at and if it takes a year or more to get where I want to be then that's ok. Thanks again Craig |

Some place to ask questions or just whine (no cheese) if things don't go well. If you wish to join this fine group of people we weight in on Wed. and set reasonable monthly goals. I do recommend to them to NOT eat Lil Debbie's as a diet food. (Weirdo) |

Elite 3460 Slackerville, USA | Subject: RE: TEAM SKINNY - May Flowers (May2010) Not happy with how I ended may. Had pretty stable weight for the month, (no significant loss but no gain either). I stepped on the scale last night for a final weigh in and I was up from 199 to 202. I really want to be done with the 200's. Setting a goal to get under 200 and keep it there for the month. I don't plan on any significant weight loss for June since I will be in Mexico for the first half of the month and our food is provided by those that are housing us for the trip. We're doing a humanitarian aid trip and are staying with host families. My goal is to lose three pounds so I am back under 200 and never venture back into that territory again. |
