Total Time = 3h 23m 36s
Overall Rank = 840/999

Age Group Rank = 27/37
Pre-race routine:

Woke up and had a quick breakfast of a small bagel and a small doughnut at the hotel. Then we biked over to the transition area with the others from Team in Training. I put air in my tires, got body marked, and then set up my transition area. Once everything was in place, I took the bus to the swim start and waited for my wave to begin.
Event warmup:

The only warm up that I did was the ride from the hotel to the transition, which was about 2.7 miles.
Swim
  • 28m 51s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was in the fifth wave. After the fourth wave went, I hoped in the water and floated The swim course was very wide, which really helped with the start. I was able to get into a rhythm right from the start. During most of the swim, the Columbia Bridge didn't seem to be getting any closer. All of the sudden it was there and within a few minutes, I was running out of the water.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 04m 4s
Comments:

My transition time was a little long. I ran past my rack and had to double back. I had no problem getting into my shoes and socks. I forgot to grab a gel and debated going back. Instead, I decided that I would just grab one before starting the run.
What would you do differently?:

Move a little quicker.
Bike
  • 1h 31m 15s
  • 24.9 miles
  • 16.37 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike felt great. I probably slowed a bit too much on some of the downhills and turns. Overall I had a good ride and was within my anticipated time.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Transition 2
  • 02m 34s
Comments:

My time was much quicker than it felt.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 1h 16m 55s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 12m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

It was very hot. I was alternating between running and walking. My strategy was to just get through it. At the water stops, I dumped several glasses of water on my head to stay cool.
What would you do differently?:

Not much given the heat, but would like to have run more. It was 2 minutes slower than my time at my first sprint triathlon.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around the staging area with Deger, went to the Team in Training tent to check in. I got some food and drink and tried to relax.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The weather.

Event comments:

It was a great race. I'm looking forward to doing it again next year.

Hey Congratulations on your finish. Sorry to hear about the walking more than you had hoped , but you made it through. The heat was a huge factor in many people's race...it sounds like you fought through it pretty well.
