Total Time = 5h 42m 23s
Overall Rank = 90F/423F
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 22/90
Pre-race routine:

ate bagel, protein shake, banana and diet coke three hours before start, gel one hour prior, gel 30 minutes prior
Event warmup:

none!!
Swim
  • 41m
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

Course was long (all times were off a bit) and I just wasn't ready for an open water swim--first of the season and I can't find my stroke. Also late waves had stronger wind and what felt like a current, still, pretty good water, I just need to swim better early in the season--should easily be under 36
What would you do differently?:

not drop my elbows
Transition 1
  • 03m
Comments:

long run in bike shoes, no sunscreeners!!
Bike
  • 3h 06m
  • 56 miles
  • 18.06 mile/hr
Comments:

good for me, cross winds didn't have too much impact, I stayed in zone 2 and while my legs felt tired I was consistent with HR and nutrition
Transition 2
  • 02m 30s
Run
  • 1h 48m 40s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

awesome run considering heat!! used the sponges, had a gel at each loop start, passed tons of people, stayed pretty consistent, fast first loop, last three were all same pace
Post race
Warm down:

beer!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

swim, heat

Event comments:

expected sunscreen appliers in transition, perhaps that was foolish...

Aw man, I wanna swim like you!  And that was a poopy swim for you?   I'd take that anyday!   Oh, and can I have your run too???  I think I can keep up with you on the bike at least!

Great race Kim!  Congrats!

I saw Terese at the gym and she still has her number "tan"!  Too funny!

Hopefully we can get together to train once Michigan decides it truly is spring!
