Now that my first tri is complete it is time to focus on the next one, the Turtle Crawl Sprint.  Hope to meet more BTers at this event.  Where are you staying, when will you arrive, have you set a goal time to finish?

I am driving down after work Thursday so it will be a late arrival, around 11 PM.  My wife and I are staying at the Oceanside Inn.  Based on what I did this past weekend at Collins Hill I hope to finish the Turtle Crawl around 1:25.  At least there will not be any hills to climbing on the bike...but no downhill coasting, either.

The wife and I are in for the Oly.
Were driving down thru (13th) and should be in town that afternoon. We're also staying @ the Oceanside Inn & Suites thru the weekend. Might do the Pasta Dinner the night before the race at the Turtle Center, sounds fun/easy.
Just planning on going hard and fast and see how things workout. Training going good, had a great 10mi run in the rain today and had a good result @ Tanner last weekend. This will be my third race of the season (second Oly).
Everything builds toward Augusta 70.3 in Sept.

I'm doing the oly.  We arrive on the 13th and are staying at the Hampton Inn & Suites through Sunday.  We are attending the pasta dinner at the Sea Turtle Center.  Should be fun!

I highly recommend watching the actual turtle crawl Saturday afternoon.  That's when the rehabilitated sea turtles are released by the Center staff on the beach.  It's cool and so cute to see the turtles crawling back home to the ocean.

My goal is sub 2:30, but I'll be happy as long as I finish with nothing left.

Forgot to mention, 1st race of season, and 1st race in 2 years due to an ACL reconstruction last summer!  Can't wait to race!

Here is the info on the pasta dinner, from Georgia multisports website:

Pasta Dinner is being offered from 6 – 8pm on Friday, May 14, 2010 at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center. It is $15.00 per person and includes entry to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center which is staying open late specifically for guests of the Pasta Dinner. Due to limitations in space there are only 100 tickets available. Tickets can be purchased online on Active.com while registering for the event or at JekyllIsland.com/TurtleCrawl. Click on Nest Fest Activities.

Hope to meet many of you in less than two weeks.

I'm doing the Oly as well, staying at the Days Inn (because it is literally next door to transition).

My husband will be doing the Oly and I will be running the 5K.  Plan to head down there on Friday morning and get settled.  Hubby will probably take a quick spin on the bike and a short run mid-day.

Staying at the Hampton Inn.  I think we are out for the pasta dinner...will see what else we can find in the area...looking forward to exploring a little.

The Georgia Multisports website and all the other info I have seen on this race said it is a 12 mile bike for the sprint and a 40K (24.8 miles) for the Oly.  However, the maps on the website now show it as just over 14 miles for the sprint and over 28 miles for the Oly.

When I registered several months ago the map has us going counter clockwise around the island.  Now the route is clockwise.  A few more miles is not that big of a deal but just wondering if the maps are right or not.

I just checked out the maps too. That course is different than last year (and it does go the other way around the island). They did get rid of the U-turn in the middle of the road though, which is kind of nice...no need to slow down and bunch up!

I just noticed that as well. The 40K bike (24.85miles) is now a tad over 28 miles, and in the reverse direction. Also, not sure if I am crazy, but I think the swim was in the other direction last year?

I'm pretty sure the swim is the same direction as last year. That would just be mean to turn it around!

So, they have added 2-4 miles on the bike and now we swim against the current.  Fun.  Maybe the run will be only on the sand, too!

Anyone email Jim Rainey to see why the changes?
Was looking forward to a "fast" course. Im sure it still is, but would like the swim "with" current and the extra 4mi on the bike means you might have to hold back a "bit" for the run.

I emailed him and got a response that the run was changed due to construction and is longer than posted.  I replied back about the swim and asked if it is with the current or not.  Waiting on a reply and I will post here.

UPDATED:  Just got the reply and the swim is the same as last year; no change in direction.  Hopefully there will be a strong current carrying us down the beach.

Sorry about that.  The bike is long, just over 14 for the sprint and over 28 for the Oly.  The run is a 5K and 10K.  The swim is with the current, just like last year.

I'm in for the Oly and am driving down Friday morning from Atlanta.  We're going to the pasta dinner.  There isn't a whole lot to eat on the island and I know my son will enjoy it.  There is still space but you have to call to make reservations, 912-635-4444.  I'm surprised they added to the bike but 4 more flat miles isn't too bad especially if they ditched the u-turn.  Oh, and we're staying at the Hampton Inn.  I'm looking forward to next weekend!  It's my first tri of the season.

I'm in for the Oly. Driving down Friday morning. I'm at the Hampton too. It looks like a great hotel from the pics on the web. I'm looking forward to the weekend getaway. And all I can say about the swim still being with the current is: whew!

I'll be participating in the Sprint, and it will finally be my first Tri ever...  so I'm shooting for ... finish.  Just look for the big guy at the at the back of the pack and fumbling through transitions and that will be me. ;}

My wife and I will be heading down late Thursday night at staying at the Oceanside Inn.

No worries! You will do great, and remember to enjoy the day. You only get one first triathlon, so enjoy it!

Besides, you will have a great group of people/racers there to cheer you on to the finish.
