Anyone done this tri?  It's June 12, and I was wondering what to expect with water temps, and if it's possible to do it without a wetsuit.

you'll be fine without a wetsuit if you want to race that way, awesome race.

Think the water temp last year was 68.  We were fine without a wetsuit.

Water temp last year was 68 degrees.  All the women had wetsuits except for Tammy (tnickerson) and I.  Water was a little cold when first getting in, but I had no problem without a wetsuit.   You will be fine without one.

Last few years it has been wet suit legal.  See people w/ and w/o wetsuits.  This is an awesome, well run race.  Unique in that it has 2 transition areas.  Bike course is pretty much flat.  Run portion is on top of the reservoir, so after you leave transition you run maybe a 1/4 mile and have to run up the side of the reservoir where you run on gravel.

This will be my first Tri, and I'm looking forward to it! I checked out the course a few weeks ago, and have a question.. Do you have to run up the stairs to the top of the reservoir, or can you just run up the grass wall beside the stairs? Brad

I remember running up in the grass next to the stairs.

the only other tricky part of the course could be leaving T1.  T1 is at the top of the reservoir and you have to g down a hill and make a left at the bottom.  The course is swept for all gravel, but you can get up a pretty good speed by the bottom before making 45 degree left turn.  I usually practice this a few times before race day.

This is great! I'm glad I found this thread. I'm doing the Olympic Tri and had the same question about the wetsuit. I have one and plan on using it. Any reason not to? 68 degrees doesn't sound too warm to get overheated.

Also, my wife is doing her first multi-sport for this event, the duathlon. Does anyone know how that works with the 2 different TAs?

We went and checked out the course this weekend. If the wind stays down, it looks like some pretty fast bike times are in order.

Thanks

Last year they switched it so the du only had one TA...they were set up at T2 for both.  The run was the same for both 5k's.
check out the course map on the hfp racing site.

Is there a lead car for the bike route?  I've never done a tri before, and was wondering if there is a lead car like in running road races?

I dont think there is a lead car but could be mistaken(I have never had to worry about thatLaughing)  All the corners are well marked with flags lining the direction you need to turn, and are staffed with volunteers to help guide you.
