Event warmup:

Set up transition, went for a short ride to make sure everything was cool on the bike, and then hit a short run.
Swim
  • 40m 33s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

Got a little off course on the last part of the second loop that probably cost me a couple of minutes.
Transition 1
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

short run up from the lake.
Bike
  • 2h 47m 1s
  • 56 miles
  • 20.12 mile/hr
Comments:

First part of bike was on relatively smooth roads. We had a tail or cross winds in most places. Around the mid point of the ride we turned on a road that was very ROUGH! In addition to the rough surface of the pavement we were riding into a head/cross wind. The road was littered w/ bike tubes, bike bottles, and various other bike accessories (basically anything mounted behind the seat was ejected). I was so happy to be off that road until we turned back on to HWY 17 and we were met w/ full force gusting head winds. Hwy 17 has pot holes the size of small dogs! There is def. some shovel ready projects on that road that could use some stimulus money!
What would you do differently?:

Slow down and conserve energy for the run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

Nothing much to say. I jumped off the bike. Ran to my transition spot. Racked the bike, put on my shoes, and started running.
Run
  • 2h 36m 16s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

I actually felt pretty decent at the start of the run. Around mile 2 I could feel my legs starting to cramp. At the 3 mile mark both legs cramped really bad. I walked/ran from that point on.
What would you do differently?:

Not be stupid on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

sat in the lake praying an alligator would come eat me, vomited a couple of times, drove home.

Event comments:

This was the first year for this race. As mentioned earlier some of the road conditions were pretty rough. There were plenty of aid stations and the volunteers did a wonderful job. Overall I was pretty disappointed and discouraged w/ my overall performance.

Hey

Good Job.
I thought it was a good race and I think Mt P did a good job hosting.

I felt sorry for you all in the 1/2 during the run with the sun out.  Our entire Sprint race was with overcast sky's.

I am starting to think this race next year will be my first 1/2.

Good luck the rest of the year.

Good race in what sounds like tough conditions.
