A buddy of mine is considering doing IMKY after he completes the 70.3 in Florida next week, but he is concerned about being able to prepare for the full IM in the 15 weeks between races. He has been doing triathlons for several years and we did the 70.3 in Augusta last year. He is strong in all three events and has a very solid base level of fitness.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? He is looking to take the plunge, but is worried about having enough time between races.

If he's training properly for the HIM, 15 weeks is more than enough to get ready for an IM.

He can do the HIM, recover for 2 weeks, and then head into one of the 13 weeks to an ironman plans.

So, the timing seems just fine to me.

2 cents.

He can totally do it, if he's that fit. I did Oceanside on March 29th and the IMSG last weekend, and felt fine. It will help if he just treats the 70.3 as a warmup/longish workout of sorts for IM Kentucky.
