Total Time = 56m 36s
Overall Rank = 15/179
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 4/18
Pre-race routine:

Toasted bagel with cream cheese, yum!
Event warmup:

There wasn't allowed much warm up for the swim. I did about a 100 easy before.
Swim
  • 07m 59s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 36s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was a 500 at the YMCA pool. It went well. I started off too quick just like our swim coach told us not too. Each lap time was slower as I went except for the last one. Overall I was happy with the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Don't start off too quick. Long strokes even when I get tired.
Transition 1

Bike
  • 36m 22s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.80 mile/hr
Comments:

Headwind going out, tail coming back. I felt like I was FLYING! I was passing everyone. I was going back and forth with a couple of guys but eventually passed them. This was the first race that I used aerobars and I stayed in them. To me aerobars make ALL the difference. I also LOVED the water bottle between the aerobars, that was convenient. I didn't fill up the aerobar water bottle thinking I wouldn't need it all. I ran out of water about a mile before the end of the bike portion.
What would you do differently?:

Fill up the aerobar water bottle.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I drank a small bottle that had a GU mixed with water.
What would you do differently?:

I would have drank that while running, not in transition.
Run
  • 12m 15s
  • 2 miles
  • 06m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

I came off the bike EXHAUSTED!! I felt like I was hyperventilating. I couldn't get my heart rate down. I was running ~6 minute miles at the beginning but I felt like I was running at 10:00 pace because I just came off the bike
What would you do differently?:

Even though it was only two miles I should have worn a fuel belt and carried one water bottle on it. I think I could have done better if I did.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched a bit, socialized, ate bananas, oranges and drank lots of water.

Event comments:

This was a two day race with the swim taking place the first day and the bike and run the next day. This was my first triathlon and I had lots of fun!! I even won a t-shirt at the raffle! Wahoooo!!! :-)
