Subject: Lower Stroke Count = Faster?
Firstly, thank you to everyone who helped me by critiquing my swim vid.

In the pool today, while doing a maximum distance per stroke drill, I decided to count my strokes. It came up 2 less than before my critiques, and I was taking long glides at quite a low cadence. So apparently my efficiency has improved. I didn't, however, time myself.

So my questions are:
Does this mean that I should try to duplicate this newly-found stroke at a faster rate now? Or stay at the comfortable gliding cadence and let speed increase as I progress?

Speed is a function of stroke length and turnover.  Ideally you want to increase both your stroke length and your turnover.  Try to increase your stroke length while maintaining stroke rate, or maintain stroke rate and increase stroke length...or increasing both. 

Golf score drill helps with this...  try to minimize # of strokes plus time per distance.  For example 20 strokes per 50 taking 30 seconds is a score of 50.
