Run
Comments: I ran with my friends Amy and Steffen for the first 7 miles or so. Our goal was to run no faster than 10s so we would have something left for the second half. I think we did this pretty well. My knee/hip started to hurt around 7 so I let Amy and Steffen run ahead. I stopped and walked through an aid station and it felt better. Overall, it was just a lot of running. I took Gu at 4.5 and 9 miles and was planning on taking some more at 13.5 or so, but just didn't feel like it. The last 2.5 miles were definitely difficult (the longest I have EVER run in my life was 13.1). I had to mentally break it up into 1/2 miles increments. But I made it! What would you do differently?: Go to the bathroom before mile 14. I had to go when I started but the lines were so bad I decided to wait. Probably waited to long. Post race
Warm down: Walked through the finishing area. Had a banana, piece of watermelon and granola bar. Walked UP the michigan St. hill to our car. Bad planning on my part. What limited your ability to perform faster: More training would probably have yielded a better time, but with my knee/hip issues I've been having I couldn't be happier with this race. Got up, got dressed, ate a peanut butter sandwich, drove to parking and walked to Devos Center. We were worried about parking, but it ended up being fine and we were there about a hour early.
It was so windy and cold that we decided to stay in the Devos convention center until right before the start. It was packed. But the 5kers and 10kers left before us so it started to clear out. No real warm-up...a little stretching.
