Sunny
Total Time = 1h 28m 33s
Overall Rank = 119/555
Age Group = 55-59
Age Group Rank = 5/14
Pre-race routine:

Took week off for the most part. Did my morning swims and hit my two standard body pump classes with some P90X. 3 Hammer Gels for nutrition and that was really all I needed. Felt strong all the way through the 3 events and came no where near bonking.
Event warmup:

Stretched for 10 minutes and did a 10 minute jog before the race.
Swim
  • 17m 33s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

Need to get in a few more lake swims to get the wetsuit "thing" down. Will do this over the summer months.
What would you do differently?:

For some reason my goggles fogged up. They are the ones I usually use for USMS events and when diving off swim platforms. I have something called "Cat Crap" that helps prevent goggles from fogging, but forgot to use it. A mistake. Made sighting a little more difficult than it should have been. M. told me she didn't have any fogging problems, so I'll use the Cat Crap next OWS in Lake Norman to experiment.

Get a few practice swims in with the wetsuit. I can now understand why people like to wear them and also understand the "panic attack".
Transition 1
  • 02m 18s
Comments:

This went a little better than I had anticipated. I did use the glide and it helped, even though I was shocked to hear we could use our wetsuits, at least I was prepared. The previous day (Sat) the scheduled HIM event did not allow wetsuits and it was 90+ degrees.
NOT wearing socks is a great idea and no blisters to boot this time! Maybe the glide helped.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 41m 7s
  • 14 miles
  • 20.43 mile/hr
Comments:

Loved the bike course.
What would you do differently?:

Don't believe I could have pushed myself much harder. Will have to train better to improve my time, which I should be able to do.
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Didn't rack the bike quite right the first time, cost me a couple seconds
What would you do differently?:

Did as well as I could have, no real blunders with the exception of not getting my left brake fully racked the first try.
Run
  • 26m 17s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

Fastest time for me in years. Very happy with it, just need to improve it with more running.
What would you do differently?:

Just need to train better.
Post race
Warm down:

No massage. Stretched, drank water, ate bananas.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

No limit other than the short panic attack in the water.

Event comments:

The Setup Events have this down pat. Everyone out there today was great and had a great experience out there.
